  1. Sorry, just vomited again thinking of the scene from South Park last week. "Oh, Boss!"
  2. It kinda proves that timing the market is a fool's errand.
  3. I think I found this link on Bogleheads... https://personalfinanceclub.com/time-the-market-game/
  4. McGonigle's top two comparisons...
  5. Be careful assuming drafting him in the 9th means they wanted the guys taken in the 4th-8th rounds more. The effect of the denominator on draft pools means you may not want a signability risk earlier.
  6. Nyt had a deep dive on that a couple months ago. I am glad Wyden is getting behind it, but breaking it is not.
  7. Drafting Riley Greene and Tarik Skubal.
  8. I don't think Avila greenlights the platoon and pitching chaos that led to the 2024 success. I doubt Avila signs Flaherty. Avila rarely claimed guys off waivers if there wasn't already an open 40 man spot, so somebody like Tyler Holton probably isn't on the roster. Player dev/soft skills stuff/pitching labs etc. really have taken off under Harris. Also, much of the GM/POBO's job is making sure all the different parts of baseball operations work well together. So many are focused on who acquired the player, but who opened things up to make sure the team got the best out of that player? Does anybody remember the first thing Harris did? He cleaned house on the training side. The team has been one of the healthiest in baseball the last three years. I HIGHLY doubt the Chadd/Pleis crew draft McGonigle. Doesn't affect 2024-5.
  9. Thanks, South Park
  10. I would add everybody DFA'd Tuesday. Also, Drew Sommers can't be outrighted the rest of the off-season. If they can get him to agree to a generous minor league deal, non-tendering him to bypass waivers makes some sense if they need the 40 man space down the line.
  11. When I looked at it using academic research in college in the mid 2000's, so much was tied to synchronization where an inefficient motion could increase the momentary spike.
  12. I am getting a kick out of her stock photo looking like something out of a Taboola clickbait ad.
  13. If anything I would say bigger pitchers are more susceptible, just given longer moment arms and the biomechanics of it all. All of that is likely in the weeds, though. Diet, exercise, and genetics are tough to control for in a study and likely are your main drivers.
  14. On the starter front, I noticed in last week's injury update that Olson had a setback.
  15. So the DFA window is 7 days, and the non-tender day is Friday. DFA doesn't mean a player has been placed on waivers. In Foley's case, he is also injured and literally per the rules cannot be outrighted (there is a small window where he can that ended yesterday), so he will not be going through waivers. He is a certain non-tender. Ditto Guenther. Rainey as well because you can't outright a player added after Aug 15.
  16. Nope, I bet he is non-tendered and has to settle for an NRI.
  17. In the cases of Darnell, Little, and Mattison, the Tigers can offer them a raise on their minor league split (the AAA minimum for somebody on the 40 man is $127k next year... They can offer something on the order of $160k) and not have to pass them through waivers. This assuming all six of those guys are non-tendered Friday.
  18. Since July 1, Liranzo slashed .195/.257/.299 at Erie and was so bad behind the plate he was a full-time DH after July 27.
  19. Liranzo isn't a lock, imo.
  20. Gun to my head? Hao Yu Lee Trei Cruz Thayron Liranzo Jake Miller RJ Petit I also think Torres accepts, so that would require six DFA's. Tanner Rainey Sean Guenther Jack Little Dugan Darnell Andy Ibanez Drew Sommers I would expect anybody DFA'd today to be non-tendered Friday and Little, Darnell, and Sommers to very quickly re-sign to minor league deals.
  21. Salary caps don't redistribute talent. Salary caps suppress salaries and decrease expenses for owners. The luxury tax is a soft cap and has gotten more severe with every CBA. Has it helped parity? I would submit it hasn't. What has helped are things like the competitive balance draft picks.
  22. Actually I am interested in the WAR talk. I have been meaning to sit down and refresh myself on the inner workings of the different systems. Having said that, it is a pretty significant week on the roster front.
  23. That was my guess when Trump changed his mind. Occam's razor really.
