  1. I’d be fine with him and other notoriously blackballed players getting in the HOF posthumously. Put them in a “disgraced” section if you must. It’s the Baseball Hall of Fame. To never in eternity acknowledge players like the all-time hits leader, the all-time homerun leaders, etc. for future generations of baseball fans to learn about when they visit the HOF is a disservice to the game. Obviously you’d include why they were denied enshrinement when they were alive as to reiterate that dishonest behavior is not tolerated or celebrated, but it’s important that those stories still get told so that generations of fans will understand the context.
  2. Id like to see an inning, maybe 2 out of Holton, then 3-4 out of Reese. If we have the lead after 6/7 then go to Huerter and Jobe to finish it off. Maybe even more Will Vest if he’s good to go today. If we are down or tied, then go with Hanifee/Guenther to still try to win but save Huerter and Jobe for Wednesday bulk innings if needed. Mize and Madden only pitch if it’s a blowout either way.
  3. That was just pretty standard Todd “Rollercoaster” Jones or Fernando “Tilt-a-Whirl” Rodney feelings.
  4. Who is ready for a Kerry Carpenter masterclass today?
  5. Can’t wait for all of the videos of Frank The Tank watching the game 🙄
  6. It seems like he may be good in a relief/set up role if he can’t put it together as a starter. He was throwing 97-98 this past week when he came in as a reliever. That velo might make his breaking pitches a bit more effective.
  7. Is Bobby wandering around the forbidden Astros trash can vault?
  8. Jobe 9 inning shutout tomorrow, let’s go
  9. Who do you want in as a reliever? Gimme Holton
  10. Can Skubal pitch tomorrow too?
  11. The Strauss logo on the helmets are irritating me
  12. JHM and Ibanez doing their jobs today
  13. I’m annoyed that his death is taking focus away from Dikembe Mutombos. Dikembe did a lot of good with his life.
  14. Our target should clearly be Deuce
  15. Good news- my aunt has very mild covid, so since you all post here- that counts as close contact with me and that means you need to stay home from work to isolate the next 72 hours
  16. Most mid to low markets are going to have that reaction though. It’s one thing to be on a payroll budget, but another thing to not even try to field a competitive team on any level. Twins and White Sox fans are furious with their ownerships right now.
  17. It’s weird. Oakland fans definitely weren’t showing up when the team strategy was penny pinching and trading off anyone they had who was good, but that place seemed like an absolute zoo during the times where the team was consistently good in the post Hudson/Mulder/Zito/Haren era. The fans there were thunderous when we played them in 06 and then in the Verlander domination era in the playoffs. Plus go back and look at stuff like the Balfour Rage where the stadium stands turned into a mosh pit whenever he came in to close games, and all the stuff like “I believe in Stephen Vogt!” Chant and “Nerd Power” for Eric Sogard. Maybe Oakland is just a very extreme fair-weather fan base where if the team is good they are going ape, but if the team isn’t good they basically disappear entirely.
  18. So if Oakland built a 12,000 seat stadium they could sell it out every day for the As. Doesn’t mean the attendance figure isn’t low relative to other teams…. Why move the team due to poor attendance and then put them in a stadium that can only hold about 10k more seats than their average attendance was in Oakland? They’re at capacity and are bottom 5 in attendance, meanwhile another losing franchise—the Commanders—are bringing in 20k more tickets a game and are at 85% capacity.
  19. Featuring Kenta Maeda as Jek Porkins
  20. If there’s one thing we learned this year (and thank God we finally did), it’s that bringing in cheaper “veteran leaders” is generally an outdated waste of time and money. It’s not a coincidence that we start winning and playing with more energy and enthusiasm once we jettisoned Canha and Urshela, benched Maeda, and started cutting way back on Baez’s playing time. Rarely is the trade value of those players even worth it. Our team may not have had the experience on the grind of a season and playoff race, but that’s what they have coaches for- to keep them focused and motivated. We have a team now- a group of guys with not much ego who will go out there and do whatever it takes to help the team win and will gladly cheer each other on when it’s not their turn as opposed to just guys who have been inserted into the roster because we were the team that would pay them the most. Even if we go out in the first round of the playoffs this year, I’ll be going to more games next year, buying more Tigers merchandise and trying to hype up friends, family and coworkers for next year.
