It does seem like the stars are lining up for Dingler to get hot at the deadline, doesn’t it? TBF, the guy isn’t chopped liver. He was part of one of the best catching tandems in the game. He’s already got 1.7 WAR by Fangraphs (1.0 by Reference). And he’s probably going to cost something like eight million next year so the Rangers are probably just renting him. Kelly is good right now, as good as he’s ever been (which had been twice before). That’s all the Rangers or any other team would want from him.

Harris sees something in these two particular guys. I’m going to give him a fair chance to show and prove before I pummel him. I ain’t seen him **** up a deal real bad yet.

We weren’t going to trade for Jansen. Hicks has a hit tool that could get him to the majors for a few years. Owens has a plus fastball that tops out at 99 who could be a useful piece if we can develop a second pitch for him. These guys are a decent get for someone we were going to lose for nothing at the end of the season anyway. If this turns out to be their best trade of the deadline, then I’ll be disappointed.

Carson Kelly wasn’t going to get us anything “exciting”. He wasn’t even named as one of MLBTR’s top 50 trade candidates back on July 11. I acknowledge that you and I are going to die soon and we want to see a winner before we go, but we can’t take leave of our faculties what it comes assessing what kinds of returns we should expect to see in these trades. 😉

I think the factthat we got two FG numbered prospects for Kelly is pretty impressive. Of course, they both have significant holes in their game right now so there’s no guarantee either is going to make an impact for us. At least trading him didn’t bork us completely at catcher.
