2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread
chasfh replied to oblong's topic in Detroit Tigers
Maybe because they have already rigorously attempted to get Baddoo to hit lefties better and have determined that he simply can't do so. This is possible. Just because they're not playing him against lefties against our will doesn't mean they are simply being ignorantly obstinate. It is also possible they are giving the entire issue short shrift and have prematurely concluded Baddoo can't lefites because they are indeed being ignorantly obstinate. I would regard that as being less likely. -
Who the **** is "Amanda the Red" and why the **** should I care about what the **** she has to say?

Pritzker in Illinois is pretty good, though

What do these kids know? They're only children. They are not old enough to form their own opinions. Their still-forming minds are being manipulated against their will by the woke gay agenda. They need to be taught godly moral values and what freedom really means while they are at school, first and foremost, if it takes every single minute they are in the building. The future of our republic is at stake. It's my tax dollars and I vote.

It doesn't matter whether he does it. It matters only that he says he's going to do it. His only interest is in getting elected, not in governing.

And that's fine, I could be on board with that. I'm asking only to gauge the level of pain you'd be willing to withstand to get to a point where Baddoo is only 20% worse against lefties than overall. Just let's all not whine a few weeks in when he's 1-for-18 with 11 strikeouts against LHP. If we're in to achieve that result, stay in all the way. That said—the Tigers may already have come to the conclusion that hitting lefties is a lost cause for him, based on repeated attempts and analytics/Rapsodo-based evidence, and if that's the case, they might be more right about it than we are. -

Deaden the ball, stick with it, and we might eventually get back to 15 position players naturally. -

If you don’t mind Baddoo’s .217/.276/.245 line against LHP every day. They may already have figured out over the past three years that he can’t, which may be why Baddoo almost never goes out there against LHP today. (This is not my own conclusion or value judgment about him or the Tigers. I don’t know anything more about it than anyone else. This is merely a speculative statement.) It’s possible they could force him out there time after time against lefties, take the short-term loss on production for some number of months or maybe even seasons, and he could eventually get to within, I don’t know, maybe 80 tOPS+ against LHP. He’s at 49 tOPS+ lifetime against LHP right now. Would you be willing to take that short-term loss for such a long-term outcome? -

Wow, raise your hand if you saw this one coming! This is obviously to cover Vierling to fill the RHH outfielder role. Is Vierling going to be out much longer than originally thought? Low back injuries are notoriously wonky. This is obviously low-risk low-reward, as Marisnick is not know as a controller of strike zones. Doubtful this will be anything like a McKinstry find, but hey, might as well see what's left in the tank here. I wonder who we are going to trade for to cover Rodriguez when it comes out he'll be on the List longer than originally thought? -
Then you've never been in Big Shoulders when it's 48 degrees and breezy off the lake at midday in late May!

And now for a practical map we can all use today. It won't suck to be around the Great Lakes and the Upper Midwest this summer.

Anybody here who's thinking of supporting Russia, just remember that they have a long history of hating baseball, which de facto makes them a country of unmitigated evil.

We need players, so sign up today! We really, really need players! For the love of God, won't you please sign up today!

My impression is that might be more accurate economically, but that they are closer to Mississippi or Alabama politically and socially. Actual Canadians might consider weighing in to, I would assume, tell me how wrong I am. 😅

With the dawn of mandatory ten-digit dialing, it is no longer necessary to dial a "1" before you call another area code, or your own area code for that matter. So save yourself the pain and agony of pushing eleven buttons to make a phone call and make it easy on yourself by pushing ten buttons instead.

I think the main thing to remember about 30-year-old Ibanez is that he was never intended to be a piece for the future. He is a stopgap piece for right now, and that's it, because even while an organization is rebuilding, they still have to run players out onto the field at Comerica Park in the meantime. OK, so, why don't we simply dump Ibanez and any other player the second they start struggling and just find someone to replace them? Because giving in to that urge would lead to chaos. This whole organization is lousy with has-beens and AAAA players and non-prospects, and they are almost all going to have stretches like this at some point. If we dumped players the second they started struggling and then scrambled around the market and waiver wire desperately seeking replacements, we'd be going through that process literally every week, which would make us look like an organization out of control, which would not be attractive to players who might be called upon to make the decision to play here. It's part of a long game, I think, to appear to be an organization working to fix itself and get back on its feet instead of an organization just flinging poo on the wall to find quick solutions to immediate problems every week. This probably isn't the entire reason, but I'd bet it's a pretty big reason. -

TORK! is going to be this, and who knows, maybe Greene will be something close. Eventually, though, just not right now. Otherwise, need to get someone like this on the market, and it's probably going to be at least a couple of winters before the Tigers become an attractive landing spot to a slugger like that. -
I see, OK. It would be nice if they would have a separate Twitter account for personal stuff, but then, why would they because people are addicted to follower counts.

Example?

If the Russian regime assassinated a US senator, they would set it up circumstantially to create enough doubt about its provenance that we could not really be sure it was actually them and not some weirdly convenient coincidence, and then we would definitely have a real decision to make.
