  1. Ordinarily, I would be OK splitting a series on the road, but against this opponent three wins certainly seemed more than possible. But they’re a better club than their record indicates and the Tigers didn’t play as well as they could have. Each team pretty much got what they deserved out of this series.
  2. The 13 run outburst of that first game right now feels like it happened 50 years ago and it’s a distant memory I’m talking about with my grandchildren.
  3. Well, it’s gonna take more than one more run for us to win this game now.
  4. You know this is kind of inevitable. There’s a ton of data out there and we’re deep enough into the season and all sorts of scouting of the Tigers has occurred by now, and teams are figuring out what the Tigers are doing and how to respond to that.
  5. This would be a good time for Torkelson to stop sucking.
  6. I think a guy like Joe Pesci came up to him in the dugout and told him if he didn’t shape up, he would be sleeping with the fishes in concrete shoes beneath the Ambassador Bridge along with Jimmy Hoffa.
  7. Now that was a good inning. Six pitches.
  8. A tidy 64 pitches to get through two innings. Now in the next two frames Mize just needs to hit the first two batters on the first pitch to the plate and get two triple plays, and he’ll be right about where he needs to be, 70 pitches in 4 innings
  9. I just noticed there’s no Riley today.
  10. To be fair, Johnny and Daniella are neither former ball players or necessarily astute analysts and for the pregame to have any weight they’ve had to bring Bobby into the mix. Maybe it’s just a getaway day thing. I have no idea. I was just surprised.
  11. So, let me guess to save money FanDuel doesn’t have the pregame show and Johnny and Daniella have to drive back to Detroit in a cheap rental to save money on airfare.
  12. So is this game not a 2:10 PM start time?
  13. So I’m on MLB TV, and there’s no pregame show. For those of you watching FanDuel in Detroit is there one?
  14. It must be terrible to have a job where you have to keep providing content, regardless of how inane or useless it may be.
  15. My ability to follow the Detroit Tigers has changed dramatically over 65 seasons. It once was a lonely pursuit of looking at box scores and is now a 24–7 passion in full color on TV chatting in real time with other people. Never living in Detroit itself, I originally settled for box scores in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette newspaper, a subscription to the Sporting News, maybe a dozen TV broadcasts on a Fort Wayne, IN station, and of course, the daily blessing of listening to Ernie Harwell. Yearly Sporting News baseball registers were a big deal too. As a kid my room was covered with cheaply printed black and white glossy photos of the early 60s team, and I could’ve been mistaken for a religious zealot with a wall full of icons of various saints singing with mysterious allure. I was also the only person I knew who had a passion for the Tigers. So it was a somewhat lonely pursuit. Such as having arcane hobby like collecting bugs. I was never enculturated in a vibrant, local tradition like most of you. After the amazing joy of the 1968 season and getting older, I pretty much stopped paying attention, especially when I moved to Tucson, Arizona then Boise, Idaho. I busied myself with the life of a young man. Spent every weekend in the mountains walking through carpets of flowers and enjoying the other worldly solitude of the desert. My general disinterest was only interrupted in 1984 when a group of Detroiters moved to Tucson, Arizona, and I fell in with them and for the first time in my life, I was not a lonely bug collector, but a fellow member of a religious cult and a part of a lineage, where a passion for the Tigers is passed down from generation to generation. In 2004 thanks to the Internet I discovered this site and it’s really great to feel included in something broader which was once a lonely, personal pursuit. It’s really a joy to share these last 100+ games with you.
  16. This is really cool, thanks for looking it up. It’s amazing how hard it is to win 100 games even in the era of 162 game seasons.
  17. The Tigers have scored 19 runs in three games, which is 6.33333333333333333333333 etc. yet I am not particularly comforted by this but they’ve won two or three games which rationally should make me happy. The White Sox are definitely a better team than last year. Good for them. It’s better for baseball to not have really terrible teams.
  18. Riley singles 3 hits 2-nite
  19. Thx ump for the dramatic called strike on a ball.
  20. Hadn’t Keith already committed to coming home?
  21. Heck. Somehow that worked for the White Sox.
  22. It’s a game of inches.
  23. I stopped caring and now I care again. I am easy. I am such a tramp.
