The league is trying a new rule in summer league.  End of quarter heaves will still count on team stats, but will not count for the player taking the last second desperation shot.  This is to protect a players shooting percentage.  I imagine they will see how this works and implement it next season if it goes well.  

Here is how heaves will be defined:

Pretty sure that trade was demanded by ownership.  Believe it or not, the Pelicans were going to be in the luxury tax this year.  That trade got them out of it and saved ownership over $20 million in a tax bill next season.  To do that, they had to take on a few extra years of Poole compared to the CJ contract but at a lower AAV which keeps them out of the luxury tax.

aside from the financials, that trade is only going to help them lose.  which is kind of the point.

We all make fun of the Wizards, well, because they are the Wizards.  But getting off of that Beal contract might be the best move any GM has made in the last decade.

They fire a guy because they wanted a more creative offense.  Only to hire a defensive minded coach that has struggled with offense.

Yep.  Assuming Paolo only gets the 25% max next year, he will make $41 million.  

2nd apron starts at $223,372,000.  Orlando will have $221,000,000 in committed salary with only 7 players signed.  That's a mess.

Not the worst idea. 

But would you do it for older guys too?  SGA was supposed to get a 30% max deal.  He qualified for the 35% super max instead.  Would you also count that as 30%?  I would think you have to if you are doing it for the younger guys.

The other big change will be draft picks.  Teams need to value them a lot more than they have in the past.  The new CBA rules demand you find cheap talent, and draft picks are the best way to do that.

Not saying it will happen next year.  But Jokic seems like a guy destined for the Barry Sanders retirement plan.
