  1. Easier to understand for one. Is a team winning by more than 4 points? If yes, game over. If no, keep playing. Nothing about: If the first time gets a TD, then they win, otherwise the other team gets a shot. If the second team gets a TD they win. If the first team didn't score at all, then a FG wins it for the second team, but if the first time got a FG and the second team gets a FG then the first team gets another shot and they win if they get any points. You also eliminate situations which I think are "cheap wins" like the teams trade FGs then the first team gets a sudden death win on a FG. Or if the defense gets a safety the offense still needs to go down put up some points to win it.
  2. He got a LOT of practice with that his first 12 years in the league so he knows what to do.
  3. You mean the drive where they hardly threw the ball? Why isn't St. Brown getting the ball? Why are they running on first down all the time! 5 first downs and they ran the ball all 5 times! Horrible play calling.
  4. Hindsight being 20/20, but a FG to end the half would have saved my heart a lot of stress.
  5. A new season and an old push for my simplified OT rules. Now, in my personally opinion the best OT rules would be to simply play a full "5th" quarter and the game it over when that qtr is done. But, I get that the NFL doesn't want that. I'm not sure if it's because of concerns with players health or wanting the excitement of sudden death or some combo of both, but here is (yet again) my proposal for simplified OT rules that: Keep the excitement of sudden death Easier to understand for teams/fans Stays close to the NFL's current rules Stays close to "real" football (ie, don't reward changing philosophy like just trying to get a safe FG like the old OT rules did.) The proposed rules are this: A 5th qtr is played and a coin flip is used just like current rules are. Play stops at the end of the qtr OR if at any point one team leads by 4 or more points.
  6. I didn't HATE the font... I get that they were doing for a unique font that was distinctly Lions... but I also can't say as I love it either. Again I get what they were going for and I think it mostly work with the name, but numbers were "meh" at best.
  7. Wow... um... maybe it's not a good thing there's still time in the game?
  8. Still time in the game obviously but... ouch.
  9. The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Rednecks (Official Music Video)
  10. Oh, for sure the field wasn't great and it definitely was a factor. But it wasn't the only factor.
  11. I actually watched most of this game and I wasn't overtly impressed with either team, which is good for the Lions has both these teams were considered contenders. GB lost despite a fumble and 2 INTs from the Eagles. As for Philly? Hurts seems to be still making poor decisions. So this is a pretty much a best case senario for the Lions... GB loses, both teams look questionable. Having said that... this is the first game of the year and I expect to see some rusty players. I expect we'll see from rust from the Lions as well so I don't want to put TOO much emphasis on one game of lackluster play. As for Jordon Love: I don't wish ill-will on any individual, but I also am not going to be upset if this give the Lions an advantage this season. I'm quite sure no team out there was upset that the Lions secondary was a MASH unit last season. I doubt any other team's fan said: "I just wish the Lions didn't have so many CB injuries so that we faced an even better team." Well... maybe the Raven's fans did.
  12. Wow... yeah, that's a tough call there. I suppose it depends on how you're classifying your dislike. Dislike of the player or dislike of the person? If you're talking the person it's hard to argue that Sutton isn't the worst given the alleged incident with his woman. But just as a player, CJGJ get it for the reasons you listed here.
  13. Well... now that I did a bit of digging, this might not be the correct information. See here: The Cliff Notes version: The Grand Rapids Rustlers (or maybe Rippers??) did exist in the Western League, but moved to Omaha, and then folded. A separate team that was originally from Columbus moved, very briefly, to Grand Rapids, then to Cleveland.
  14. I will add for the record, it seems like Rice is handling this correct now. He's admitted his involvement. He appears to have cooperated fully with police. He willingly turned himself in when a warrant was issued for this arrest. Since the accident he's done the right things from what I can see. Hopefully this is a good life lesson for him that will be expensive for him, but ultimately doesn't appear to have causes serious injury (or death) to anyone. It's not his fault that the NFL hasn't decided to suspend him and he certainly shouldn't feel some obligation to self-suspend himself.
  15. (Responding here instead of in the Lions-Rams game thread) I hadn't heard anything on this so I had to look it up. Holy crap, how is this not getting more attention? From wikipeida: On March 30, 2024, Rice was the driver of a Lamborghini Urus involved in a high-speed hit and run crash on North Central Expressway in Dallas, while racing another driver in a Chevrolet Corvette. Four other vehicles were damaged in what Dallas police called a "chain reaction collision" after the Lamborghini struck a retaining wall. Video obtained by The Dallas Morning News shows five men disembarking from the Urus and the Corvette and leaving the scene on foot without checking on the occupants of the other four vehicles. Two of those occupants were transported to a hospital, and two others were treated for minor injuries at the scene. I mean you've got street racing, not the worst offense ever... but then it does get worse because there's a crash involving innocent people. And then to top it off they leave the scene without even checking on the other people. And yes, the case is still pending, but there's really no question here that Rice was involved. He's even admitted as much (again from wikipedia): On April 3, Rice met with Dallas police, and in a statement sent to the Morning News, he said that he takes "full responsibility" for his part in the collision. There's no way this shouldn't be something the NFL looks at and says it's unacceptable behavior. I know it's not fully apples to apples here, but Sutton got an 8 game suspension for his domestic assault. The biggest difference being that he INTENDED to harm the woman where as Rice didn't INTEND to hurt others. But the end result is Rice did a dumb, illegal thing that led to people getting hurt AND afterwards he walked from the scene. How is that not even worth 1 game suspension??
  16. The White Sox picked up a win on Wednesday making them 32-109. The '03 Tigers after game 141 were 37-104. From here through game 156 the Tigers only picked up one more win so now is the time for the White Sox to try and gain some ground. The Tigers finished the last 7 games with 5 wins though so the Sox will need to gain some ground and finish strong if they want to get ahead of the '03 Tigers. The absolute best the White Sox can finish right now is 53 wins. Right now there are only two teams with fewer than 53 wins beside the Sox: Marlins and the Rockies, both with 52 wins. If those two team collect one more win or the Sox lose one more game it will be impossible for the White Sox not to have the worst record in MLB and we're not even though the first full week of September.
  17. I don't think we can even call it a game of inches anymore. I think it's the right call that he was out of bounds but my goodness... that's a fraction of a inch over the line there. This is like if the dude is ONE shoe size smaller he's inbounds. Wow.
  18. I totally missed this when it was announced but apparently the NFL is allowing players to wear the soft shell guardian helmet "wraps" in ga me this year. https://news.sportslogos.net/2024/04/28/nfl-will-allow-players-to-wear-guardian-caps-in-games/football/
  19. Pointless trivia of the day... did you know that the Cleveland Guardians actually originated in Grand Rapids? They were originally founded in 1894 as the Grand Rapids Rustlers with the Western League. in 1900 they moved to Cleveland and changed to the 'Lake Shores,' then the Bluebirds in 1901, the Bronchos in '02, the Naps from '03-'14, then became the Indians in 1915.
  20. I'm guessing the 33rd Team will only be marginally successful, then Brady will join and it will be fantastic and everyone will consider Belichick the greatest analyst in NFL history. Again... sorry... I'm just in a bad joke mood this morning I guess.
  21. No wonder he wanted out of Detroit so bad... Sorry... it was too easy... I couldn't let it go.
  22. Update: 24 White Sox = 31-108 03 Tigers = 37-102 The Tigers just finished a 3 game winning streak. They would go on to lose the next 6 games meaning if the White Sox win the next 6 games they'd be tried with the 2003 Tigers. Teams now need 54 wins to guarantee that they don't finish with a worse record the the White Sox this year. The Angels and Athletics have both passed that mark meaning only the Marlins and Rockies (both at 51 wins) are still in the danger zone.
  23. Update: 24 White Sox = 31-103 03 Tigers = 34-100 The nationals can no long finish with a worse record than the White Sox. Leaving 4 teams mathematically still "in danger" of sucking more than the White Sox this year: Marlins (48 wins... need a combo of 11 games, either Marlin wins or White Sox losses to be safe) Rockies (50 wins... need 9) Angles (54, need 5) Athletics (58, need just 1)
