  1. You got an A because you knew that Kansas City was in Missouri!
  2. That's a change that has happened gradually over the last 4 or 5 decades I think. Guys like Camilo Pascual and Bert Blyleven used to make a living throwing curveballs, they must have been getting called strikes. Then the slider came along, late 60's maybe, and it was easier for umpires to call. Maybe over time they lost the ability to call the curveball, and pitchers stopped throwing it.
  3. Absolutely true. You hope for a swing and miss, knowing that you won't get a called strike.
  4. 100%. A ball can pass through a 3 dimensional strike zone and still hit the catcher in the shoes.
  5. The lineup management for the whole game has been too cute.
  6. This has the feel of a game that the players will win in spite of the manager's efforts.
  7. Got away with it. Ridiculous.
  8. And then a couple of ground ball singles
  9. Cisnero at least takes your mind off Schoop for a minute
  10. Can't pinch hit for Schoop of course because Baddoo is "the last man on the bench", a self-inflicted wound.
  11. Oh there goes a statistical oddity out the window - that is Greene's first double.
  12. And now predictably here come the lefty bats.
  13. Lol that reminds me of a story Sean Casey tells. Playing for the Red Sox, he was thrown out twice within a week, trying to stretch a single into a double. After the second one he was furious so when he got to the dugout Terry Francona put his hand on his shoulder and walked him back towards the clubhouse. When they were safely out of earshot of the rest of the players Francona turned to him and said "are you sure you don't have polio?"
