  1. Overall, I like the younger analyst on TV to send the signal to the audience that this is not just an old fart game. Kirk Gibson was MY Tiger growing up but i'm into my final few years in the workforce and have kids in college. The next generation needs to be represented. Craig Monroe probably won't resurface but, others can. Carlos Pena has been a very interesting voice when i've tuned into him. Seems like we have a lot to gain from more Alex Avila, Andy Dirks and others who may want to stay in the game rather than just count their paychecks. I don't know how we ever get him in the booth but Justin Verlander after he retires would be interesting.
  2. Benetti and Dirks are a good team. Really enjoying that pairing.
  3. Another thing about the character of a place you bring up. When it grays. Totally saps the energy. You need kids and young parents and even...hipsters.
  4. There is something to the mentality of the people who settled a place being an important factor. For years the book Seeds of Albion was considered authoritative about the "folkways" of the United States which broadly implies that snooty but moral NE settlers around the Plymouth Rock settlement were different than cash crop-loving (and eventual slave-holding) Jamestown settlers who were different from fringe British Caledonian and Celtic martial types who settled in the Allegheny and Appalachian mountains, never mind the criminals who settled in Georgia. Fine as it goes but any analysis that ignores the Dutch culture in West Michigan, the Scandinavian and Finnish culture in the upper Great Lakes not to mention the Polish and Italian culture of the cities. It still means a lot that there are variances in place. The character of Hamtramck is definitely shifting but is that bad? Its bad if someone says its bad. Chinatowns were a thing in most cities and now they have to be historical theme parks to protect that character with funding. Its like keeping Tiger Stadium up as a monument. Its fine but does it actually serve a public good to do that. Invest in the good and mitigate the actual bad (crime, excessive vice) vs change as bad (they look different, they eat different food).

  17. ok, the RGA is not the same as the RNC. I totally get that the RGA would not continue to support that weirdo.

  19. listening to people on various pol podcasts lately, a lot of discussion that the Dems didn't drop that Mark Robinson oppo. That was the GOP trying to force him to quit. They did that because they likely knew about stuff that was worse that was coming. I dunno: once Hamburg is burned to the ground, do you need to keep "dehousing" the rubble?
  20. And my dad’s business partner got driven out of local GOP politics by questioning the militarization of the local gendarmerie.
  21. The local sheriff is trying to rival the philadelphia police department of the 1970s by acquiring armored fighting vehicles and other extravagant equipment while the local high school suffers for resources.
  22. From what i see, the white entrenched business owners are stupidly fighting the business opportunities.
