  1. Fascinating I think i agree with the premise. I can see the degree to which locals are annoyed. I've seen my dad try to navigate the hostility to Mexican business among his West-Michigan rotary club among the entrenched white business owners. He's always trying to increase outreach to the non-English speaking community and crickets from the rest of the local club.
  2. This is the purview of the big 3 network nightly news shows (although to be fair I'm thinking NBC and ABC specifically). They always seem to be trying to bothsides things to the extent that you'd think corporate was monitoring the broadcast with pain buzzers hooked to the on-air talent's nethers.
  3. The most disingenuous poll question that the credulous media asks is the right track wrong track question. Of course the country is on the wrong track because large swaths of it are in the thrall of anti-constitutional and anti-democratic forces. I wish the sitting president could do something about that but he's not responsible for the other side being idiotic.
  4. Never underestimate the value of well done propaganda.
  5. I dunno, Biden won in 2020, the Dems did very well in the 2022 mid terms compared to where they were supposed to be, so you tell me
  6. Mbop, Hanson's Razor is to ascribe to malice any music which increases the urge to kill.
  7. But, that said...the very fact that they got help from Russia and those guys are idiots is sort of saying its a rich tapestry.
  8. Sam Elliot lets fly with a couple cusswords
  9. I think the fact that they get a lot of help from abroad is part of this.
  10. That profile suggests he lived in London.
  11. Were they a precursor to one of the other known British New Wave bands? I recall a bunch of movement among bands during that period that seemed like that of California professional sports teams. [edit: not seeing that they did that but am seeing that the drummer Blair Cunningham on a bunch of their songs was a classic session drummer with a lot of credits to various bands]
  12. Seriously, what kind of bubble is she living in? She got all those advanced degrees in music and it never came up?
  13. Heck of a sports weekend and I saw about 20% of it due to blackouts and being busier than a one-armed paper hanger in a windstorm. No jumping out a window for now.
  14. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a [Tiger's] boot stamping on a [Twins] face—forever. -- Inner Party Leader O'Brien 1984
  15. 5 star tweet
  16. I spent the entire game time doing a picture day for my softball league. A lot of interacting with people for this introvert. After the picture day, I had a pitching clinic with my daughter and by the time that was done I was losing my mind over how this game went. I saw we hadn't gotten a run since the 6th. The Jace Jung plays were like the Sweeney play from last night. Parker Meadows again! Mein Gott in Himmel!
  17. And we don't even have our semi-elite RP from the last few years Alex Lange because RPs are weird like that. [edit; seeing he was lost for the season, but he was struggling even before that]
  18. Almost
  19. Yeah, and since Harris is a POC and woman (notable she's not running on either) that will be a different electorate. You can be assured that the people who hated Trump before January 6 will continue to oppose him. That locks in a lot of very motivated voters. Having a better brand at the top of the ticket improves the energy of the base. I think we are going to blow the Trumpists' doors off but there will be shenanigans.
  20. Listening to Trump surrogates and anti-anti-Trump people say: "How dare you accuse us of being against Democracy, you are causing all the violence!" Not having that. Its bovine scatology and doublethink.
  21. any baseball game that gets past the 10th inning is an immediate watch.
  22. for some reason I'm listening to the Eurythmics soundtrack to 1984 tonight. https://www.tumblr.com/artist-tyrant/69668613937/obriens-monologue-1984
  23. Yeah, Human civilization was progressed a lot by those scientists when we landed on the Moon. I realize the Peenamunde site was using slave labor to build the V2, but we definitely benefited massively from them.
  24. Fairfax County government. center was pretty lively. Happy to have done this critical civic deed today.
