  1. Matt Shepherd's face during that segment with Dan Petry and Jack Morris was something i have not seen and wish we would see more of. Actual real talk in the Detroit media market (on the product side, not the Valenti jibber jabber side) is stunning and refreshing. People respond to the truth. The Tigers are the most beloved professional franchise in this market. A little bit of it from the product side would be welcome.
  2. That's a legal nicety involving Title 50 of the US Code. If we declare a foreign politician like that it requires certain US military responses. While I would support that, I don't imagine the people who live in US cities would enjoy the retaliation which might lower their property values.
  3. Reminder...we have a problem with Prigozhin https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/counterintelligence/yevgeniy-viktorovich-prigozhin
  4. Prigorzhin is a horrible person and he would be worse than Putin. We do not want. Putin's stooges in Shoigu and Gerasimov are just dumb and awful. We do not want smart and awful.
  5. Good bye for closers who can't throw strikes.
  6. Soto...the closer of the future for some other team.
  7. yes and no. I will miss the near daily activity of watching a tiger game even if i'm only watching with academic interest. Emotional investment is there but its vestigial and needs to be reignited with things which appear to be building toward our next championship run and not the panicked need to retain any and all bad trade pieces to reinforce that no bad trades were ever made.
  8. Good thing i didn't watch the 9th of the first game or much of the second game. I take heart that we are actually scoring runs. I hope a clear-eyed review of our holdings will shake out some of the things that Al wrought.
  9. Knowing full well that we may have years of this war ahead of us, it is interesting now to see this thread where the end game appears to be possible. He may well be overthrown by his generals, his intelligence agencies, his oligarchs. He'll throw a lot of them out of windows first, but continue to threaten everyone with nuclear war and lose horribly on the battlefield with no potential exit. Yeah, there are scenarios I can see.
  10. Yeah
  11. Tolstoy knew a thing or two. According to the essays George Orwell wrote about Tolstoy he was a crank (as was Orwell) in his own weird ways but he had some admirable traits as well. https://bigthink.com/high-culture/tolstoy-shakespeare/#:~:text=George Orwell’s response to Tolstoy Shakespeare%2C having died, compelling argument for why we should read Shakespeare.
  12. Spent the last 4 innings blissfully asleep. I do enjoy the try-hard version of this team and its near constant winning. Now, go for broke and sweep the DH.
  13. Badoo is becoming the player he was supposed to be this year. There is hope.
  14. Not as bad as it could have been. If I were any team that had our playoff destination already locked in I'd sandbag the doubleheader. Have position players pitch both games.
  15. She's talking about cleaning up in another way. https://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/elections/2022/10/03/whitmer-abortion-proposal-poach-companies-talent-from-anti-choice-states/69529559007/
  16. I raised an eyebrow at this https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2022/10/03/edsel-ford-calls-out-st-pauls-in-gp-on-anti-abortion-signage/69533990007/ Was thinking this was some crazy maga in the Ford family but turns out its the opposite. Country club area Catholic extremist.
  17. Good thing for the purposes of your engineering snark that she wasn't named Liz Flying-Buttress
  18. Just what we needed: Midnight baseball in the final week of the season. Imagine if we were in a playoff chase?
  19. My son and my money go there. But sure as hell, it was the Quicken Loans guy who covered the difference for him to go there vice some school in Virginia. They seem to have deep pockets these days in EL.
  20. My son the freshman at MSU sends that the natives in EL are pretty restless. He's more into D&D and Halo to give too much of a damn for football (this was the smartest thing I ever did for him, not imposing my fan obsessiveness on him).
  21. So, Ryan Day apologized for that? I see they apologized for not taking a knee on their final drive. I think the brittle culture of OSU and its primer-sniffing fans would benefit from some catharsis.
  22. another blow for privacy rights
