once I was doing a comparative percentages of deaths for the Civil War for the US and WWI for the Commonwealth. The US recovered from the Civil War because of all the immigration but the UK more so than the Commonwealth populations were really gouged by WW1. Per the googles... 6% of the UK adult population died in WW1 and 2.5% of the US total population died in the Civil War.
