Such a rough day for Mark Scheifele. His dies last night, then he is sitting in penalty box as Stars score OT winner to knock them out. He had to take the penalty though, it was a breakaway.
The AL Central’s 1st place team has the best record in MLB and has won 30 of past 42. Its 3rd place team has won 12 straight. Its 4th place team had a recent stretch in which they won 16 of 18. Its 2nd-4th place teams are all in wildcard position. The AL East has 4 teams under .500.
I’d say Windsor has more Tigers fans than Jays fans and Sarnia has a roughly equal split of Jays fans and Tigers fans. I’d say Windsor has a roughly equal split of Wings fans and Leafs fans and Sarnia has considerably more Leafs fans than Wings fans. Games being shifted from Channel 4/20/50/PASS (available in Canada) to Fox Sports Detroit and the like (not available in Canada) was a blow. The Lions are huge in Windsor and Sarnia, the most popular NFL team, but even still I’d say in Sarnia half cheer for a team other than the Lions, a wide assortment.
My dream for tonight is that the Tigers pound the Jays and as dejected Jays fans leave the stadium they rub shoulders in Maple Leaf Square with wailing Leafs fans distraught that the Leafs are being knocked out of the playoffs in Florida.
I've also heard rumours of a stomach bug or food poisoning - that's the theory of my daughter's boyfriend too - but that may just be wishful thinking from fans who can't accept their team is collapsing again for no good reason.
Two higher ranked teams - Washington and Winnipeg - down 3-1 in their series will try to stay alive tonight. This is my favorite time of year on HFBoards because invariably a fan of a team facing a big deficit will pull out the “Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor” line. And then without a fail a bunch of Swedes or Finns will jump in to say how stupid are Americans and Canadians for not knowing it was the Japanese. Europeans really need to become better educated in classic film history.
