  1. I don't know if there's any great national PBP men on either side of the border. Chris Cuthbert gets the #1 assignments in Canada and he will be remembered here for his call of the Crosby golden goal in 2010, but something about his voice doesn't quite sit right with me. I can definitely see why Jack Michaels is loved by Oilers fans, but I think too one-sided for the national broadcasts he has been doing. John Bartlett is OK I guess but hasn't been given top national exposure yet beyond Habs games. Harnarayan Singh may have the best balance of steady PBP with excitement when warranted. Of course none of these names probably mean anything to Americans, lol.
  2. With a win tonight, this year’s Tigers would match the win total of the 2024 White Sox. With a win tonight and tomorrow and Thursday, this year’s Tigers would match the win total of the 2003 Tigers.
  3. Cherry's firing and Ron Maclean's meekishness during that week is seen by many as a symbol of the Trudeau era. That said, Cherry had long overstayed, he should have retired or been put out to pasture during an offseason a good 10-15 years earlier than he was (he was 85 when he was let go, 91 now and doing podcasts with his son but a shadow of himself given his age and failing voice/energy). His schtick was predictable and got boring, especially after hearing basically the same thing for 20 years. But no doubt he should be a slam dunk Hockey Hall of Famer in the media wing as should Barry Melrose. Surprised they aren't already in. This year's inductees? François Gagnon and Daryl Reaugh. Budd Lynch got in 1985 and Bruce Martyn in 1991. Mike Emrick in 2008. Mickey Redmond in 2011. Dave Strader 2017. https://www.tsn.ca/gagnon-reaugh-named-to-hockey-hall-of-fame-media-wing-1.2314635 https://www.hhof.com/general/fosterhewittmemorialaward.html
  4. It’s bad on MLB radio. Mike Piazza, Jack Buck and oppo-taco.
  5. Tigers’s second 13-run game of the season. Other one was 13-1 over the Angels in Anaheim on May 4th.
  6. “Deep but playable”. Carpenter flies out. It would have been nice for Carpenter to have had the 20th four-homer game in history on the 15th anniversary of Galaragga’s perfect game.
  7. Dan D’s call of Carpenter’s 3rd home run. Carp’s 3rd HR.m4a
  8. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6394898/2025/06/02/mitch-marner-nhl-free-agency-ranking/ Mitch Marner NHL free agency sweepstakes: Ranking all 32 potential landing spots "The most likely fits" segment contains four teams, as judged by the Athletic writer: Carolina, LA Kings, Utah and Vegas. The Wings are one of ten teams listed alphabetically as "the maybes and long shots". " "Steve Yzerman needs a big swing. The Red Wings’ rebuild is now entering its eighth or ninth year, depending on where you mark the clock, and they could use another star or two to push them forward. They have the cap space to make this work and are still an iconic Original Six franchise, even after all the losing over the past decade. But the shine is off for free agents, and Marner would most likely look elsewhere for a better chance to win."
  9. Was it Decker or Ragnow in that short clip talking about one of them having basically a deformed toe now after years of abuse on the field?
  10. Mariners win! The lead is 6 over Cleveland, 7 over Minnesota, 8 over KC.
  11. So it's been pointed out from time to time how the Tigers a) have a good record against teams >.500 and b) have played a lot of games against teams >.500. For a) 23 wins ties with Houston for 1st in MLB and 23-18 is 3rd behind Mets' 18-10 and Yankees' 21-15 for best record. For b) 41 games is 2nd in MLB behind Houston's 44. But then I noticed how LA Dodgers' record against teams with records >.500 is only 12-9. Only 21 games, how could that be? Because I know they swept the Tigers to open the season, beat Cleveland 2 of 3 this week and beat the Yankees twice so far this weekend. So I looked it up, figuring it had to be a misprint. But get this. Between April 14 and May 21, the Dodgers played 30 of 32 games against teams under .500 By the way, 13 of the Tigers' next 16 games are against teams under .500, the only exception being 3 at home to the Cubs next weekend.
  12. Seattle blows a 9th inning lead versus Minnesota for the 3rd straight game.
  13. Which means playing merely .500 (51-51) the rest of the way would get them to win 90-72. That would have to be their floor I think, barring a major injury to Skubal and/or Greene. Simply win 90 and I’d say they’re 98% a playoff team and 70% they’re a division winner. But my goal is for the Tigers to be one of the top two division winners so they can bypass the wildcard round.
  14. Another series win. Making it 14 series wins out of their past 18.
  15. That will show up in the box score as a routine ground out to the pitcher. 1 out.
  16. Seattle wins. They get out of a 1st and 3rd none out jam in the top of the 11th, then score on a close play at the plate on a slow bouncer to 1st. Tigers' division lead is 6 over Minnesota and Cleveland, 7 over KC.
  17. Mariners blow another 9th inning lead over Minnesota. Now tied in the 11th
  18. Keith gets his 2nd hit of the game, the Tigers' 2nd hit of the game.
  19. Nothing worse than when your audio feed buffers at a key moment only for it to come back when the Royals runner is being waved home with the game's first run.
  20. Around 10 years ago a French singer named Alizee was the talk of MTS for her performance of her song J’en Ai Marre, which I believe translates to I Love Tigers Fans. Her other big hit was Moi Lolita. This week, in a concert in Paris, Dua Lipa paid tribute to Alizee by singing the latter song on the 25th year anniversary of its release.
  21. I remember earlier in the month Curtis Granderson, in an interview in which he was overall flattering towards the Tigers, said that in the coming weeks the Tigers “would finally be tested” - Texas, Boston, St. Louis, Toronto etc. I thought the Tigers had already had a normal enough schedule to date. But if we just look at the time since Granderson’s remarks, the Tigers have gone 13-7 versus Texas, Boston, Toronto, St. Louis, Cleveland, San Francisco, and KC. The last 14 of those have all been against teams over .500 and the Tigers have gone 9-5.
  22. Mariners gave up 7 runs in the 10th inning to Washington last night and 6 runs in the 10th inning to Minnesota tonight.
