  1. The four big games tonight, all starting at 7pm

    - Montreal at Red Wings.  Wings will be eliminated if they lose in regulation. With a win, would be safe from being caught by Pittsburgh if the Pens lose in regulation tonight. Even with a win, no way for the Wings to be safe from being caught by Washington or Philadelphia prior to Game 82

    - Boston at Washington.  If the Caps lose in OT, the Wings will control their destiny by winning their final 2 games.

    - NYI at NJ. The Wings need to gain at least a point on the Islanders tonight or else it will be impossible for the Wings to catch NYI. To catch NYI, the Wings would need to gain 3 points on the Islanders over the final 2 games; Wings win the tiebreaker in that case.

    - Nashville at Pittsburgh. If the Wings win and Pittsburgh loses in regulation, the Wings will be safe from being caught by Pittsburgh.  If the Wings win AND Caps lose in regulation AND Pens lose in any way tonight, the Wings will control their destiny by picking up 3 points in their final 2 games.

I'm so happy he isnt doing these games... we've suffered enough

He is destroying the radio broadcasts though. That, and the loud canned cheering during commercial breaks on the At Bat app, makes the experience significantly worse than past years.

  3. Three teams are still in the running to be 1st overall in the Eastern conference, thus facing the #2 wildcard team. Which we hope will be the Wings.

    - NYR - 112 pts, 1 game remaining

    - Carolina - 109 pts, 2 games remaining

    - Boston - 109 pts, 2 games remaining

Boston, which hosts Washington, has plenty to play for as they have just a 1 pt lead for Florida for 1st place in the Atlantic conference. It's wild how many teams could still be the opponent of Boston in the 1st round:

    - Toronto, if Boston finishes 2nd in the Atlantic

    - Tampa, if Boston finishes 1st in the Atlantic, #2 seed in the East

-Any of NYI, Washington, Detroit, Philly or Pittsburgh if Boston finishes 1st in the Atlantic,#1 seed in the East

  4. Pens lose in regulation!

So now very simple, if the Wings win their next 2, they just need Washington to drop a point to either Boston or Philly (or NYI to lose both of their remaining games in regulation). There is a scenario where the Wings could get in with 3 pts, but it gets more complicated. Wings can’t get in with only 2 more points.

  5. Now we need Boston to hold its 4-2 2nd intermission lead over Pittsburgh. If they do, the Wings will control their own destiny over Philly and Pittsburgh, would need Washington to drop a point.

  6. I mean, no surprise they couldn't hang onto the lead all the way for a win, but not even make it to intermission? 4-4 after 2.

Wings were leading 4-1 with an 18-7 lead in SOGs, looked like the Wings might have a 2 on 1, it got broken up and the Leafs scored the 4-2 goal on a quite long wrister.

    philly wins.

    washington winning.

    pitt still to come.

Interesting thing about the Washington situation is that the Wings could still flip the tiebreaker. Washington leads by 2 regulation wins but the Wings have more ROWs. So if the Wings go 3-0 all in regulation and Washington goes 3-0 but needs overtime for two of those wins, the Wings get the tiebreaker.
