People overlook that Hillary did exceptionally well with Hispanics, in fact, she did better than Obama in Miami-Dade county. The problem was the bottom fell out of the white vote and she lost Florida by 1. Biden did better with whites, but the Hispanics in Miami-Dade shifted hard right. Biden lost by 3. If he got Hillary level vote from Hispanics he wins Florida. Harris collapsed in Florida. Trump outright won Miami-Dade and he came within less than a point of winning Miami. If the Hispanic vote in Florida swings back to somewhere between Clinton and Biden, it makes Florida competitive at least. There were two special elections in the northern part of the state earlier this year. Trump +30 districts that Dems cut to around +15. If Dems can cut those margins and Hispanics are back, Florida is definitely back. The problem is the Democratic Party in Florida is a mess. They need the kind of organization Virginia had. One of the things that hurt Biden is he didn’t have a ground game in Miami because of COVID. You need to be on the ground with Spanish speaking canvassers speaking to Cubans. Harris didn’t really compete in Florida. I don’t know that Dems have that kind of ground operation in Florida for a statewide race. It’s a shame because there’s a special election coming up for Little Marco’s seat that I think can be competitive.

My father is white, male, older boomer, high school education, factory worker, listens to country music, lives in Macomb County, and hates Trump and never voted Republican. He fits the stereotype of a MAGA voter to a tee. The one exception is he doesn’t watch Fox News.
