I'll go out on a limb and say Demings is more likely to end the filibuster than Rubio. I know for a fact she will vote to codify Roe unlike Rubio.
-
Well, it passed by 7 votes already, 218 to 1 by Democrats, you build enough of a majority so that one or two votes doesn't kill the bill. Tell me, what can Pelosi do right now, now that the bill has passed the house several months ago before the endorsement? You complain about leadership, tell me what can she do right now to get it codified by the senate? She literally passed the bill to codify Roe and you can't even acknowledge that she got it done and instead want to complain about an endorsement months after she got the bill passed.
-
Well, Fetterman is on record as willing to eliminate the filibuster. Flip that from Toomey to Fetterman and you have one more vote for eliminating the filibuster. Not sure who the leading candidate is in WI yet. Val Demings is on record for removing the filibuster. Flipping from Rubio to Demings would be another vote. Tim Ryan is on record supporting removing the filibuster. That's a 3rd vote for removing it. Cheri Beasley has supported removing the filibuster in the past but has been inconsistent on it. Still, there's more potential from her to remove the filibuster than whatever Republican wins North Carolina. That's 5 winnable seats and 5 potential votes to remove the filibuster. It won't happen because too many Democrats are self-loathing.
-
Democrats could elect more Democrats from states such as PA and WI to eliminate the filibuster but they won't because they are too busy pouting.
-
Now we're in a fucking purity contest over an endorsement of a representative from Texas long after Pelosi got a near unanimous vote from Democrats to codify Roe.
-
Pelosi got the bill passed in the house. One more Democrat in the house is meaningless in regards to codifying Roe. The bill passed the house with only one Democrat dissenting. Tell me, how does Pelosi get it passed in the senate? Remember, 49 of 50 Democratic senators passed it in the senate including pro-life Democrat Bob Casey. At some pint, you actually have to start blaming the people who overturned Roe such as all the justices appointed by Republicans and confirmed by Republican majorities.
-
I just remembered that Republicans are going to come for social security and Medicare. Shit, this is going to affect me after all. Hopefully losing everything will be inspiring enough for young voters.
-
I don't get why she is so unlikeable but whatever I vote for people who can do the job.
-
Hillary wasn't an inspiring candidate but I do know if she were elected Roe would still be in effect today.
-
They still reap the consequences but feel it's God's plan.
-
My congressman and both senators voted to codify Roe. What else can I ask them to do? I'm ready to write to them.
-
You know what, it's fine. Let them pout. Going after Roe doesn't affect me. Going after Obergefell doesn't affect me. Going after Loving doesn't affect me. However, if they come for my weed we have problems.
-
Democrats are starting to sound more like Trump. You need to codify Roe. They did vote for it but there isn't enough of them. OMG do more. What more can we do? I don't know, inspire me. It's like when Trump asked Pence to overturn the election and he told him he can't and Trump was just like find a way.
-
This is why I have no hope for this country. Apparently the Republicans trying to end democracy and taking away rights is till not enough to inspire young people to vote. I guess they will get the future they deserve.
-
They all voted to codify Roe. 218 out of 219 voted to codify Roe. What else can the house do? I have yet to receive an answer on what house Democrats are suppose to do from the people who say they aren't doing enough.
-
I've been thinking about those voters in 2000 who voted for Nader instead of Gore in protest. How's that working out for them? All we needed was about 500 of those votes in Florida to vote for Gore and we wouldn't have a Roberts or Alito. I hope they made whatever point it was they were trying to make by helping Bush to victory.
-
I have just accepted the fact that a faction of Democratic voters are going to pout and blame Democrats instead of Republicans and sit it out. Should have realized that after the Bernie or bust progressives sat it out with a supreme court seat being held hostage. Democrats may lose but as a heterosexual white male it won't affect me as much as others.
-
I also wonder, how many Republicans are senators from states that are as blue as West Virginia is red? The only one that comes close is Susan Collins from Maine. Democrats have to try to get a senator onboard from a state where Trump won twice by over 30 points.
-
267 out of 269 Democrats voted to codify Roe. How exactly did Democrats not vote with their leadership? McConnell was only one of 15 Republicans to vote for the gun bill. 35 Republicans literally voted against McConnell but somehow his leadership got them to vote with them. All 50 Democrats voted the same as Schumer so tell me again how the Democrats don't vote with their leadership? In the confirmation hearing for Kavanaugh, Murkowski was a no. In the confirmation hearing for Coney Barrett Collins was a number. That's the same number of Republicans voting against McConnell as Democrats voting against Schumer to codify Roe. Only difference is the Republicans had a small margin to work with. You have yet to tell me what Pelosi can do after 218 out of 219 Democrats voted to codify Roe. You have yet to explain what Schumer could have done after 49 out of 50 Democrats voted to codify Roe. Instead you blame Biden, when among other ridiculous things, blame him for not getting Republicans to codify Roe.
-
Probably because there was more willingness from Republicans to work on the gun bill. If what it took was a little flattery of McConnell to get it done, then so be it. Go ahead with your firing squad on Democrats. Just remember that 267 out of 269 Democrats, or 99%, voted to codify Roe and zero, not even a single Republican, voted to codify Roe. Every justice that voted to overturn Roe was nominated by a Republican. Every justice that voted to overturn Roe was confirmed by a Republican majority. Every justice who upheld Roe was appointed by a Democrat and confirmed by a Democratic majority. Every state that has passed abortion bans have been red states. Every state that has codified abortion have been blue states. Go ahead, blame Biden and the Democrats instead of the Republicans. You still haven't told me what Pelosi is suppose to do after getting 218 out of 219 Democrats to codify Roe or what Schumer is suppose to do who got 49 out of 50 Democrats to codify Roe. What exactly is Joe Biden supposed to do? How does he get a senator from a state that Trump won by 30 points to make the unpopular decision to end the filibuster? Explain to me what this new generation of Democrat would have done differently.
-
Why wouldn't they? They got the money to send their mistresses to California or New York if they need to.
-
Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are still in the senate. They don't need Schumer's permission to work with Manchin and Sinema to get them onboard or Collins and Murkowski.
