  1. Answer my own question. Estimated $337 million in 2022 but not all for the team. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/05/how-much-revenue-does-shohei-ohtani-actually-generate.html#:~:text=Ohtani's effect on ticket sales,¥984MM (%247.26MM).
  2. I wonder what kind of impact Ohtani has on merchandising. All of a sudden, the Angels had a whole new country of fans. How much would that add up to?
  3. Heat up the stove!
  4. The Tigers were rumored to have interest in Seth Lugo. Then it was they only want him for one year and he wants three. Now half the league wants him. I think free agency is going to continue to be more money and more years. That's how it's always been. I don't know the rates of growth over the years but it seems to be increasing. Are the top guys really worth signing into their forties? I'm curious to see how high the bidding will be this year. Seems like too much to me but in five years it will be even higher so....
  5. Just sign all of the Japanese free agents.
  6. "Tigers Showing “Serious” Interest In Kenta Maeda" https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/tigers-rumors-serious-interest-kenta-maeda-free-agent.html Finally serious after wasting everyone's time all these years. Harris told them make sure you put serious in the headline.
  7. I wonder if they will have a patch for him next season. RIP Willie.
  8. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/spencer-turnbull-awarded-full-year-of-service-for-2023.html ..."That is important for Turnbull on a couple of fronts. For one, players with more than five years of service can’t be optioned to the minors without their consent. Prior to this ruling, Turnbull was still going to have an option year remaining in 2024, allowing a club to sign him but keep him as depth in the minors in they wanted. That will no longer be on the table. Secondly, if Turnbull eventually spends all of 2024 in the majors or on the IL, he will get beyond six years of service and qualify for free agency again. Prior to today’s change, a club could have theoretically signed him for 2024 and then retained him via arbitration for 2025, since Turnbull would have been just shy of six years in that scenario. All in all, Turnbull has gained some more control over his future than he would have otherwise had."...
  9. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/orix-buffaloes-expected-to-post-yoshinobu-yamamoto-on-november-20.html "November 20: As expected, Yamamoto has been officially posted, as relayed by Joel Sherman of The New York Post. The posting window begins a 7 am Central on November 21 and goes until 4 pm Central on January 4."
  10. He's had up and down years during his career. Just more down with the Tigers, none up yet.
  11. He looks like he had a few more pounds back then. The Baez we wish we had.
  12. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/11/central-notes-reds-cubs-baez.html "Tigers shortstop Javier Baez is coming off perhaps the worst season of his career in 2023, having slashed a brutal .222/.267/.325 in 547 trips to the plate this year. That was the second-worst offensive performance from a qualified regular in baseball last year by measure of wRC+; Baez’s 61 figure, which was 39% worse than league average, clocked in just barely ahead of former White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson‘s 60 wRC+. Brutal as the 2023 season was for Baez, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press relays that Baez is planning to spend much of his offseason stateside this winter rather than return to his home in Puerto Rico, as he typically does after the season comes to an end. During his time stateside, Petzold indicates that Baez plans to focus on strengthening his back and core muscles to recapture the athleticism that allowed him to connect for 86 home runs from 2017-2019, the fourth highest figure among qualified shortstops during that time span. If Baez, 31 next month, can successfully combat father time and recapture the power that carried his offensive profile in his youth, that would provide a massive boost to a Tigers team that finished bottom four in the majors with a team-wide wRC+ of just 89 in 2023."
  13. I've worn steel toe shoes half my life. They have other materials now, they don't have to be steel and yes they are light enough to run in. If I was Manning, I'd be getting a pair for sure.
  14. Why don't these guys where steel in their shoes and hand guards when they bat? It would save a lot of little bones getting broken.
  15. No room in the rotation for him if they can sign a couple veteran starters.
  16. I wonder how an opt out would work for a posted player if it's even an option?
  17. Strange move. The clock seemed to be a success. Let's mess around with it!
  18. MLBTraderumors speculates St. Louis might trade Brendan Donovan. 26 year old lefty hitter who can play infield and outfield. Contact hitter and he's under control for four more years. There are a few second baseman who might be available but most for only one year. I think Donovan is the type of guy Harris might target.
  19. Winter meetings are three weeks from tomorrow!
  20. By having the best 40 man roster you can get every year. There's no such thing as a rotation of the future.
  21. Harris' whole selling point is come to Detroit, we can help you improve. Now he has success stories with Rodriguez, Lorenzen and somewhat with Boyd. He can go to free agents and offer them a year, maybe an option or an opt out and they will be motivated to perform their best. I don't see that working well for the top guys on the market because they are already at their best but Harris could surprise us. I do like the idea of a couple motivated guys in the rotation taking the pressure off the younger guys. I would also like to see a veteran brought into the bullpen because I'm not sold on Lange in the closer role. Third base is the biggest question mark and I'm curious to see how Harris will handle that issue.
  22. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/sunday-notes-scott-harris-likes-reese-olsons-ceiling/ Some Reese Olson love and halfway through a few quotes from Benetti
  23. There are a LOT of free agent starters available. If we miss out on one, it's not the end of the world.
  24. https://ilitchnewshub.com/2023/11/tigers-ink-jason-benetti-to-multi-year-contract-as-television-play-by-play-broadcaster/ 127 games at least. If he has other obligations, Dan Dickerson will do the tv broadcast. It does mention working with Bally but maybe their situation is so up in the air that they decided to hire directly for multiple years. I don't know about everyone else but to me this says Ilitch is serious about fielding the best possible team.
  25. I find it too risky to invest so much in one player. If he's hurt or not performing, we lose all of that investment. If it's spread over multiple players, when one is injured we still have the others. I think the Tigers used 42 players this year. We need the best 40 man roster we can get.
