  1. Strange move. The clock seemed to be a success. Let's mess around with it!
  2. MLBTraderumors speculates St. Louis might trade Brendan Donovan. 26 year old lefty hitter who can play infield and outfield. Contact hitter and he's under control for four more years. There are a few second baseman who might be available but most for only one year. I think Donovan is the type of guy Harris might target.
  3. Winter meetings are three weeks from tomorrow!
  4. By having the best 40 man roster you can get every year. There's no such thing as a rotation of the future.
  5. Harris' whole selling point is come to Detroit, we can help you improve. Now he has success stories with Rodriguez, Lorenzen and somewhat with Boyd. He can go to free agents and offer them a year, maybe an option or an opt out and they will be motivated to perform their best. I don't see that working well for the top guys on the market because they are already at their best but Harris could surprise us. I do like the idea of a couple motivated guys in the rotation taking the pressure off the younger guys. I would also like to see a veteran brought into the bullpen because I'm not sold on Lange in the closer role. Third base is the biggest question mark and I'm curious to see how Harris will handle that issue.
  6. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/sunday-notes-scott-harris-likes-reese-olsons-ceiling/ Some Reese Olson love and halfway through a few quotes from Benetti
  7. There are a LOT of free agent starters available. If we miss out on one, it's not the end of the world.
  8. https://ilitchnewshub.com/2023/11/tigers-ink-jason-benetti-to-multi-year-contract-as-television-play-by-play-broadcaster/ 127 games at least. If he has other obligations, Dan Dickerson will do the tv broadcast. It does mention working with Bally but maybe their situation is so up in the air that they decided to hire directly for multiple years. I don't know about everyone else but to me this says Ilitch is serious about fielding the best possible team.
  9. I find it too risky to invest so much in one player. If he's hurt or not performing, we lose all of that investment. If it's spread over multiple players, when one is injured we still have the others. I think the Tigers used 42 players this year. We need the best 40 man roster we can get.
  10. $30 million less than Judge and he's six years younger. Why would he accept that? Is it really a good idea for Detroit to invest so much into one player again now that Miggy is gone? I'd rather have a good roster instead of one star.
  11. Playoff games equal more risk for injury as well.
  12. Tigers Notes: Rodriguez, Mize, Maton, Baddoo - MLB Trade Rumors Summary: Best of luck ERod. Mize is fine. Maton had arthroscopic procedure on his left knee. Baddoo is still in the plan.
  13. I don't think Urshela is the type of player Harris would target.
  14. Maybe they figure one more off season will help Kelly's forearm recover.
  15. Canha's defensive numbers don't look very good. Definitely Hinch's type of player. Experience at every corner and DH. Doesn't look good for Malloy who was supposed to fill that right handed, backup corner type player.
  16. The way I read it was Monday is the deadline but ERod will make his decision Saturday. It's his personal deadline not the official deadline.
  17. Nevin's dad broke out at age 28 for three good years. Tyler will be 27 next year.
  18. Get on that phone Harris. Time's a wastin' Greenberg.
  19. The Rays may look at trading guys who are about to get expensive. What could go wrong trading with the Rays?
  20. We don't need anyone. All of our prospects are going to be above average MLBers.
  21. Yay! One step closer to the offseason.
  22. Jung's brother can give him some tips at third. He had a really nice year for Texas.
  23. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/10/big-hype-prospects-flores-manzardo-bliss-montgomery-hassell.html From big hype prospects on mlbtraderumors: "Wilmer Flores, 22, SP, DET (AA) 80.2 IP, 9.15 K/9, 3.57 BB/9, 3.90 ERA Flores performs like someone with a Major League future. He induces plenty of whiffs, limits walks, and generally runs around a 50 percent ground ball rate. Typically, pitchers who can show those three traits go on to have a nice career (health permitting). Sometimes, they have to take the long road like Cristopher Sanchez or Erick Fedde. My contacts don’t like Flores’ pitch design, though it’s been at least half a year since I’ve received an update on that front. In brief, as of April, his pitches didn’t tunnel well. This is his second stint in the AFL. In three games, all relief appearances, he’s thrown eight innings while allowing nine hits, one walk, one hit batter, one run, and nine strikeouts. Flores is Rule 5 eligible this winter. Barring catastrophe, he’ll soon be on the Tigers 40-man roster. Though he has the look and stuff of a starter, a debut in the bullpen would allow him to ignore those pitch design concerns."
  24. That would make him a top 15 player in MLB.
