  1. I don't know if this qualifies as a peeve, but for the 2nd time in my career I have finished a battery of interviews for a new position - which took place over 6 months - & then was notified yesterday that it was down to me & 1 other guy - & they were going to pursue them first.  In some ways, it makes me think they liked what I had to offer - but this one came after they mistakenly sent me a rejection letter once & then rescinded it - put me thru 3 more interviews - & then moved on.  Maybe it's just because it's fresh - but I hate putting that much mental energy into something to be let down.

Interesting data point from Sam Webb from his paywall.  Gross oversimplificaition: He says that Sabb didn't care for Clink.  Not sure what was up with Wink and the flux in the DB room.

If it was Clink, he left for the Chargers before Sabb announced.

  3. I was really hoping to baby the Ariens I got 4 years ago on FB Marketplace and make it thru this winter, but this morning the handle literally fell off in my hands - & there's really not enough metal there to try to weld it on.

Wondering what you guys & gals use - and is there one in particular you would say run away from?  What about electric vs gas?  Anybody try the eco-friendly stuff yet?

I remember Del sharing a clip of the scene from the movie 21 about the Monty Hall problem and it stuck with me because I couldn't get it.  I understood what they were saying and wasn't arguing that it was wrong, but it bothered that I couldn't get it because I like to think I'm kinda smart.  And my research showed me lots of other people think the same way.

The Monty Hall Problem being, you are given a choice of 3 doors, a prize behind 1 of them.  Once you make your pick, then the host will open one of the doors that does not have a prize and offers you the chance to switch your choice? Do you?  THe odds say you should.   Many people, like me, thought it was still 50/50 whether you should switch.

On a whim the other night I started looking at it again and then it hit me like a ton of bricks after looking at a chart that simulated every possible outcome. That just proved the math who I wasn't disputing, I was just angry I didn't see how.  What helped me was to not think about it in terms of winning but instead losing and to think of it from the game show hosts perspective.   You can pick any of the 3.  He can only pick 2, and if you pick one of them, then he only has one choice. So 66% of the time the door he didn't open will have the prize.  I was very excited when this revelation occurred to me and you all are the only ones who would appreciate it.  My wife wasn't impressed.  "Ok nerd...."

Wow - I'd heard that before but it didn't dawn on me now why I should switch.

If the Lions are good enough to outscore the Niners by 17 points on the road in one half (imagine how angry Niners fans were at halftime for "coming out so unprepared for a huge game at home to be boatraced by an inferior opponent"), a desperate Niners team was good enough to outscore the Lions by 17 points over the course of a full half.

That is essentially what I told my wife at halftime when she started to get excited.  I think we all knew it wasn't over, but I did not think it would unfold the way it did.

  6. The Lions got here at least a year before I thought they could - While I would have probably made different decisions regarding FGs in that last game, I am absolutely convinced DC is the right coach.  He got more out of this group than he probably should have.

Completely agree on CBs.  I would put another edge rusher on par with that.  Beyond that, I hope we use a best player available approach at the draft - Outside of perhaps RB, QB, & S, I don't know that there is any position group where we don't need depth.

Since the league is fixed and they've already determined it's Baltimore vs. San Francisco in the Super Bowl, I just want the Lions to show well.

Of the 4 teams left I think the majority of this country is pulling for the Lions, but as someone posted a shot of a TV guide description of Ravens vs. Niners and since we know predetermined final is based on the color of the Super Bowl logo, all we'll have left after Sunday is our pride.

Next year, based on the logo, it's Baltimore vs. either Green Bay or Philadelphia.  (unless another AFC team goes with Purple).

Hoping Super Bowl 60 has some Honolulu Blue in the logo.

It ain't scripted, but it is fixed.     Just watch how many calls go against us in really big moments Sunday, you'll swear we're in Dallas.

1 question - IF the Lions win Sunday, will you admit it isn't fixed?

This is why I think these games and this run is the biggest sporting thing ever for the city and state. It already tops anything in other sports.  You guys are all living it and experiencing something that might not be topped. Even if they win it all in another year. Sometimes the ride up is more fun.

kind of like if the Tigers won in 2012 or 2013 it still may not have been more exciting for me than 2006.

Maybe I am over reacting since it’s been 10 years since we’ve had anything to cheer

This is exactly how I feel about it - In `91, I fully expected the Lions had turned a corner & would be back.  Now, having lived thru these last 30 years - Plus the Tigers run, I am just enjoying the hell out of this & not really putting any expectations on it.

If Glenn leaves, Campbell should immediately be on the phone with Vrabel about the DC position. Former player, perfect culture fit, and a fantastic coach. Look at those recent Tennessee rosters, what did they expect him to do? He’s a football coach not a magician.

I'd be okay with Vrabel.  I do hope the Lions will at least consider an interview with Jesse Minter.  What he did with Michigan's Defense this year is impressive.

...on a similar subject… hugging.  Don’t ask people to hug. Not everybody is an hugger. Figure it out. If they side hug you then learn that they aren’t into that.  Especially younger girls. Don’t even initiate it with them. I just ran into this last night. A 40 something repeatedly asking a 7 year old for a hug. Nothing malicious about it but it needs to be taught that we all have to understand that when girls say no then accept it.  That will help them late on.  They will learn they can say no.

Not a young girl, but this is exactly my son.  He has never been a hugger.  Even now, visiting for Christmas, it's a begrudging little side hug - but there's no animosity at all.

On a completely unrelated note - ESPN.  Admittedly I shouldn't have waited until the 11th hour, but I signed up for ESPN-Plus on the app yesterday, for like $100, which they led me to believe would give me access to the Rose Bowl stream.  It did not.  I had to download the Varsity app to be able to get the UM radio call.  I don't mind listening on the radio, but I'm more ticked about losing the $100.

👻Ghost bowls.  These games mean so close to nothing with all the guys sitting out. They put up a graphic of the FSU defensive players sitting out and it was 6 or 7 starters. Not sure why FSU bothered to show up at all (well, yes I am: $$$) Add those guys to Travis and you've got maybe a MAC team?

Listening to all the Georgia smack over the past few days has been nauseating.

  12. Obviously need JJ to play better - I think our WRs should be able to get a little more separation against UW than they did against Bama, which should help - especially with guys like Loveland.  I think TOP will play a big role.  Unlike the past 2 years, I think this M is resilient when tough times hit - They can withstand some blows from Penix & that offense, but if they can consume lots of time on their drives & keep the ball out of his hands, that's nice too.

...Milroe is very good, but turnover prone. If Michigan plays the brand of mistake-free football that got them this far, and capitalizes on Milroe’s mistake(s), I think it will be a one-possession game either direction.

Just re-reading the thread & thought this was interesting...Michigan had a lot of mistakes, especially on special teams.  Did NOT capitalize on Milroe's fumble...& yet still had enough in the tank at the end to win it.  This is surely a resilient bunch.

How was your Christmas ref? What the **** else would be be saying to the official other than reporting in as eligible?

then how do they determine who reported?  is it a timing thing?  did skipper report first?  did decker then report late because skipper had already reported?

the nfl will have some statement on it at some point and we'll get the ref's opinion.  skipper was pretty heated on the sideline.

There is no way Skipper reported before Decker.   There is no reason for Skipper to have reported.  The refs just announced the wrong player.  What I wonder is could the Lions hear that the wrong # was announced?  If so, could they not correct the ref - or audible out of it?

That’s the same for me. I feel so bloated even after one. Any beer with berries does that. Citrus is fine.

Dude - I drink maybe 1 beer a week, if that - Came home on Thursday night & grabbed one.  Ended up with gas so bad I sat up in a chair until 3:30 in the morning!
