No dog in this discussion. Our smallish backyard is covered by the HOA. Wouldn't even need to recharge a battery if I had one. I still have a weed wacker (battery) however..

My Honda gas-powered mower is 3-4 years old & the starter assembly is shot already.  Very surprised by this, but am waiting for a quote on fixing it.  Very tempted to just get a battery-powered mower for my smallish yard.  It takes about 90 minutes to mow the whole thing.  My concern is Consumer Reports wouldn't even rate battery-powered mowers until recently because they all sucked so bad.

realignment is coming again!  acc is imploding with the football schools ready to bolt.  this, however, makes no sense to me:

"The latest talk suggests FSU, Miami, and Notre Dame to the Big Ten; and Clemson, Virginia, UNC, and Duke to the SEC."

notre dame to the big ten is a no brainer, but unc, duke, and virginia to the jv academic league?  miami and fsu to the big boy academic conference?  hmmmm....i dont know.

notre dame, unc, duke, and virginia to the big ten and fsu, clemson, and miami to the sec makes more academic sense.

not that academic sense carries the day...but still...

Yeah, I could see that happening exactly the opposite way.

my pet peeve is talking about non-celiac gluten sensitivity like it's any problem with wheat/barley/rye and not differentiating carb-based issues. that article seems to come way to close to simply equating gluten with those grains, and reading it makes me think that whoever wrote it would label me as NCGS even though I can eat all the gluten (such as seitan-based fake meat) but can't eat certain carbs (fructans) in those grains. soy sauce and most beer is fine, but hazy beer is often made hazy by adding flour post-fermentation, so I can't touch the stuff.

if you're going to go to the trouble of writing an article about a hypothetical condition like that, why not at least mention carb-based issues as a possible root of the so-called gluten sensitivity? FODMAPs were well known by the time that article was written.

There was a 2019 follow up by the same author making some of these points but pointing out the uncertainty.

I do stand by the reason I sought it out, though. Gluten free does not help prevent diabetes, but people think it does.

I routinely ask waitresses what they do with all the extra gluten & can I get a discount on it.

LBs are RBs are running game players so I guess it depends on how much the running game figures in the league in a given era. It's at a pretty low point now but the pendulum may swing back  - good coaches are alwasy looking to change things up. I'm almost little surprised hybrid runner/receivers like Gibbs aren't more the norm in today's game.

I heard an analysis yesterday from Dan Orlovsky I think, about the fact that the AFC is a much more pass-happy conference & the NFC tends toward the running game more - which is why the Gibbs/Campbell picks make better sense for the Lions.  That may be overly simplistic - I'm not even sure whether it's accurate, but it would explain things a bit.

Hendon Hooker is not leverage. If Goff has another season like last year, he should demand a contract extension or a trade. He can tell the Lions if you feel comfortable that Hooker can take over and win the division than trade me. I have a feeling this is Goff's last year in Detroit. Either he regresses and they decide to go to Hooker, or he plays well and forces them to trade him.

If they extend Goff, I would be pissed if I was Hooker. Guy is 25 he's not getting any younger. By the time his Lions contract is over, he will be 29.

I don't think either one of them has any business being pissed.  Every team needs more than 1 QB, & there are only 32 people on the planet who are starting NFL QBs.  If Hooker is smart, he will learn everything he can & put the work in as if he were going to start - If he wastes his time being pissed at stupid stuff like other QB  contracts he will go on the trash heap with the Jamarcus Russell's of the world.  I think he's a little more with it than that - & I trust that Brad Holmes knows that, which is why he was picked.

It was Quinn who brought in Snacks, but run defense was an issue through a lot of the season. It got better when they put Buggs at nose tackle. Martin is similar to Snacks and the entire defense guy better after they acquired Snacks.

I had blocked out that entire tenure in my mind.  This may set me back a while.  😉

I’m still really perplexed by Broderick Martin. He’s earned the trust to make the move but it just seems so antithetical to everything he’s been about this whole time.

I thought so too, at least as far as the draft is concerned.  Though he did bring in Snacks Harrison, & he may see Martin as the same kind of player.

  8. I've become a Goff apologist - I would not risk a move like Anthony Richardson, because if you're not accurate against college defenders, you're not gonna be accurate against NFL defenses - & while I am concerned about Stroud's S2 scores, if he does fall I would be fine with taking him - or preferably trading down to a team that wants a QB.  I'd rather see Stroud than a CB or TE at 6. At this point, I'd even warm up to Bijan at 6 & trading Swift.

That more than I think GB should get for a aging, flaky QB who may retire after next year, but less than I feared that GB might get, so I guess it's not too terrible.

I don't usually like to hope people get injured, but if he doesn't play 65% of snaps & GB loses that extra first, I wouldn't cry.

I think a lot of people will skip it because it is about Jesus but they'll miss out on a terrific series with phenomenal writing and acting. It is so well done.

Watching it will no more make someone a Christian than watching Breaking Bad made them a drug dealer and yet they'll miss out on a fantastic show because "Jesus TV".

Yep. Faith-based entertainment has gotten a bad rap for a reason, but this is SO well shot & written.  The character development is phenomenal.

I don't buy you can't draft a RB because their careers are short. Todd Gurley had a short career, even by RB standards but I doubt the Rams regret using their 10th pick on him. If you can get an elite player for 5 years I think I take that. Roster turnover happens so much in the NFL. This team will likely look a lot different in 5 years.

I ran across an article that breaks career length down this way, by position:  Link

    • Kickers/Punters — 4.87
    • Quarterbacks — 4.44
    • Offensive Linemen — 3.63
    • Defensive Linemen — 3.24
    • Linebackers — 2.97
    • Cornerbacks — 2.94
    • Tight Ends — 2.85
    • Wide Receivers — 2.81
    • Running Backs — 2.57

Granted RBs are lowest, but even punters don't average 5 years.  I think you gotta pick talent first, & I think both you & Buddha agree on that.  If you keep picking the best talent, you'll give yourself a better chance at building a winning franchise, not just for the next season.

... I left Jalen Carter completely off my draft board because I still believe he is off Brad Holmes' board too. Unless he knocked it out of the park with his visit yesterday, I don't think they're taking him or even considering Carter at this point.

Given everything Holmes & DC have said about looking for good locker room guys, I would tend to agree - however, I also don't think they're all that conventional.  They may believe they have a good enough locker room right now that they can take a swing at the one player at a position of need that could make all the difference.  I don't believe they're afraid of the narrative.

breese has been injured and not that productive when healthy.

Kancey's tape is pretty good.  I know he's undersized, but as a pass rusher on the inside he gets after it.  We can always just use him on passing downs - though I suppose you want a little more playing time out of a first rounder.

Feldman brings up some good points about the usual loaded SEC juggernauts and OSU having to replace some key players but those teams always reload, they're chalked full of 5 star recruits just ready to step in and play so the team doesn't miss a beat.

They probably would've gotten steamrolled by UGA anyway but last year was probably their best chance to win a CFP game, not that TCU was a bad team but by CFP standards you are unlikely to get an easier matchup. It's too bad UM came out of the gates slow and JJ's mistakes were of the catastrophic variety.

    I purposely made a 2023 thread so I wouldn't have to relive that. Thanks. 🤕 😁

I'm perfectly fine with them drafting a TE at some point too. Darnell Washington, Sam Laporta, Dalton Kincaid are all reasonably intriguing 2nd round prospects. I just don't want to keep repeating Lions history with a 1st round TE.

I would be stunned if they reached and took at TE at #6, that ain't happening. However, I could see there being some world where they end up drafting one of Michael Mayer or Darnell Washington at #18 or in some trade back scenario, which I do not want. If they used one of their two 2nds on a TE I would even been cool with that depending on the player. If they traded TJ Hockenson just to go and burn/waste a 1st round pick on another TE I'll be disappointed, probably pissed. I'm going to give Brad Holmes the benefit of the doubt on most any move he could make. But another Lions 1st round TE is one of those moves that no matter how hard I try to give Brad the benefit, I'm probably going to end up dumping on in the end. I think most fans would as well.

I've come to feel like Holmes & DC view TEs on the offensive side the way they view LBs on the defensive side.  I know DC was a TE, but in this offense they are not utilized to the point of needing to spend that kind of draft capital to get one.
