Next Saturday night is going to be a disaster in East Lansing, whether Sparty loses or wins.    A night game after the events of last season in the tunnel, with drinking allowed and a very angry nothing-to-lose fan base at MSU has the makings for disaster...........better ban all sales of lighter fluid, matches and futons this week.

Seriously, I see a pending disaster.

Given last year's game I would have agreed at the beginning of the season, but the way this has played out I just don't see it happening.  Apathy doesn't make for riots.

    Or even a 1st down.

It may be simply to get a defense moving, or looking a certain way, and then: convert the 3rd down.

Or set them up for a call later in the game.

Wow, he overthrew Palmer again....................They have to go for it here, don't they?

I thought while listening to the call of the game, Moose kept saying "That's a throw Baker Mayfield won't miss later in the season" - That's who Baker Mayfield is.  He always has been.  That's the knock on him.  If he hits a wide open receiver last season with the Rams, we make the playoffs instead of Seattle.

my first lions memory was starting 4-0 and billy sims on the cover of sports illustrated...

you'll have to excuse us old fogies if were not going to be convinced about the lions until we see it.

I've probably told this before on the old board, but I started out a Vikings fan `cuz I was all in on Fran Tarkenton.  When the Lions drafted Gary Danielson, he came to my little town in the Thumb & was the Grand Marshal of a parade.  He hung out with me & the kids from my neighborhood all day - Threw passes, signed footballs - He could not have been more gracious.

I said for years if I ever see Gary Danielson again ... I'm gonna punch him right in the mouth.

It definitely wouldn’t be a first or likely even a 2nd or 3rd.  I think the go with Wilson and sign someone like Flacco, Wentz, or McCoy to back him up.  They definitely aren’t going past next week with Tim Boyle as their backup

My guess would be Flacco, since he was already there once - Although, now that I think about it, maybe that's why they'd go elsewhere.

I thought the Jets would look back on this trade & regret it - I just didn't think it would be after 1 game.

  5. Vacationing in the UP this week, only got to listen to the 1st half on the radio stream - Watched the highlights this morning.  As thrilled as I am with a win over a great team, if a couple of drops go the other way it would be different this morning.  Still have work to do in the secondary, but really nice win.  I was a little surprised even at DC having the stones to run the fake punt inside his 20.

We dropped our oldest off at college for freshman year a couple of weeks ago. A stressful and emotional moment for sure. You just want them to be happy, and for them to develop a good social circle in a new environment. Well, he's doing great! He called his sister the other day and even she said afterwards "he sounds so happy!". We are so glad that he's plugged in well to campus and with his roommates/others. We still miss him like crazy, but it has helped tremendously to know that he is having a good experience. (And yes he's going to class too. He's a pretty conscientious student.)

I'm two years away from this and I already have anxiety about it.

We just did this with my youngest grandson.  He & his mom & brother came to live with us when he was 2 and I was like dad for about 8 years.  Now he's steer wrestling in Kansas.  & if I think about it too much I cry like a baby.

  7. Staff meetings with no agenda.  I've been in my current position for just over 5 years.  In that time, I can count on 1 hand the number of times we entered a weekly meeting with an agenda of issues to cover and check in on.

More times than not, our GM comes in a little late and spends the entire meeting talking about himself.

Martinez waived so Lions will only carry two QBs assuming the Sudfeld news gets confirmed.

Not a huge surprise, in that they reportedly have every intention of putting Hendon Hooker on the roster when he's healthy.  If Martinez clears waivers, could they keep him on the practice squad or use him as the emergency QB?

what will happen is instead of 20 times fewer accidents than humans it will be 18 times fewer accidents.

Plus, remember,  Americans (and humans in general) are getting dumber.

Saw a clip of Channel 7 News from Nov. 3, 1975.   There was a story about a judge who committed perjury.   They asked "the man on the street" and the answers given were clear, well-thought and measured.     I compare that to today and it made me really sad and angry.   I bet that 40% of the population doesn't know what the word perjury means now.   But they can probably tell you who's on Dancing With The Stars this season.

Not only the man-on-the-street interviews, but the amount of time the news dedicated to the story, covering all the avenues, and even the lack of a chop job on the answers to questions.  Man do I miss news like that.

  10. I filled out the entire season worth of predictions - & then deleted it because I've been a Lions fan for 40 years & the only thing that has ever been certain is that nothing will happen like I think it will.

I do think they're the best team in the division and should make the playoffs.  I think they have the talent to hang with anybody, & I expect a lot from this rookie class - but there are still a lot of question marks.

Say you have group tickets to an event on the weekend, or a tee time e.g., and you are recruiting early in the week. Text the person and they say "I will let you know soon," but they take so long that it is too late to find anybody else once they say no. Part peeve, part pondering... At what point do you recruit over them?

Not sure there is a good answer to the question. So better to avoid it. You have to immediately respond to that first response with "It will have to be by Wed because... (insert whatever reason sounds likely)" Now you are covered and they are forewarned to be timely if they are really interested.  You can give them more slack if you want, but it's your decision. And you have a re-recruitment date.

With practice it becomes second nature not to offer open ended choices to people except  those that mean enough to you that you don't mind if they upset your life.

I think Gehringer's right, that you tell them when you need to hear by.  If they don't let you know, move on & let the chips fall where they may.

  12. As much as I hate that they didn't "get something for E-Rod", I do think long term it could help if Harris is viewed by players as one who won't throw them under the bus.  Obviously they'll go where the money is - but if the money's equal, you want a good culture.

  13. I think it's time to break up College Football into tiers.  Take 24 programs, compile stats or winning % on a 5 year rotating basis to pick those 24 teams - Break them into 2 divisions.  Each team gets 2 of their normal rivalry games protected, but the rest of the schedule is against those other 24 teams.

The rest of Division 1 is put into traditional conferences, and fill in the bowl schedule.

Pasties. I tried one at this little place up by the falls and it was horrible. Then I tried one in St. Ignace and it was fantastic. We bought some frozen ones to bring home.

Also, if you haven't done the bridge walk on Labor Day, that is really cool too. Plan on a parking nightmare when you get there but exiting is velvety smooth thanks to the MSP.

I'll vouch for the Labor Day walk - It really is cool.  Pasties are one thing I've never been a fan of, for exactly that reason. You never know what you're gonna get. It's just a pot pie.

That may be it. Interesting place. The locals had their personal mugs there. I think they had a bunch of books that you could read while enjoying your beverage and pastries.

The fellow who ran it, actually his wife did it, was associated with the Michigan State Extension Service. He spent a bit of time commuting between East Lansing and the UP

The one I'm thinking of doubles as a church on Sunday, & the coffee shop is run as a non-profit.

Because of family considerations it will probably never happen but I would love to spend a winter on the island. I watched a PBS doc on winter living and it seemed fascinating.  There’s a great Facebook page called Mackinac Island News and Views. The winter posts are my favorite.

I would do that in a heartbeat
