  1. At the Mud Hens game Saturday, Wingenter looked good, except for the 3 run HR to Clemens in the first - They fought back to 3-2, then brought Blair Calvo in - which was a disaster.  He wasn't helped by a 2B error by Rizzo at 1B, but gave up 4.  Game was shortened to 7-innings because of the rain delay - but at least I got to check an item off the bucket list.

Just finished Waco on Netflix. I had barely paid attention to it when it happened thirty years ago. I had seen a dramatic recreation of the events but this is the first time I've seen actual footage and interviews with those closely involved. Koresh was a nut job and at the end of it all the blame squarely falls on his shoulders. That said, the government sure screwed the pooch on it.

My wife & I watched that a few months ago.  To me the only reason it lasted as long as it did is efficiency.  The Koresh followers had ONE person making the decisions - nuts as he was.  The gov't could not, or WOULD not, let one person run the show - & it showed.

  3. Munising also has a cool glass-bottom boat shipwreck tour.  Definitely check out Whitefish Point & Tahquamenon, if you haven't seen it before.  Depending on which way you decide to go home, you can take 94 S and check out Kitch-iti-kipi, which is a cool spring-fed lake.  Then head back to the bridge on US-2.

& if you happen to drive by Gaylord on I-75 on the way home, honk!

My understanding is that the sports books are providing the info to the NFL. I believe that this is an agreement between the NFL and the sports book to do this.

Could this theoretically allow someone at the sports books to try get rich quick by providing information on certain players?

Saw something on Reddit yesterday.  A guy had his identical twin brother listed in his phone as Spare Parts.

My oldest grandson has his younger brother in his phone as "Tallywacker"

I'm really intrigued to see what Houston can do in a full season of work. He played like a top ten pick in the stretch of last season. Is that sustainable? I think part of his success was because the opposing game plan against our d-line was to just eliminate Hutch. With Harris and both Okwaras out, we really had nothing on the other side of Hutch until Houston came onto the scene.

That said, you don't record 8 sacks and 12 tackles in 7 games without some real talent.

I hope Houston can replicate that - though I wonder if the fact that Hutch was commanding double-teams helped him greatly.  Of course, if they don't double Hutch this year, his numbers will likely improve too.

  7. Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, but I haven't been in the Tigers threads much because I don't watch many games.  I dropped the package close to 10 years ago & never added it back again, BUT...

My wife gifted me MLB TV for the rest of the season for Father's Day - & I"m wondering how the blackout rules work.  They were in Minnesota yesterday, but I still couldn't get the live feed of the game.  I ended up watching the replay of Saturday's loss, just because I haven't seen a game in I don't know how long.

Couldn't they give you a corporate card? Then you can pay the company back any incidentals if there are any.

That would be the easy way, but as leadership goes he's, shall we say, a little finicky.  1 moment that's the way to do it - the next it's not.  I've decided it's not worth the added stress to my mind to have that conversation every time I travel.

  9. Hotel charges.  Every single time I book a hotel thru my work, I used the company card.  I then get to the hotel, they ask for a card for incidentals - I reiterate that this is NOT for the charge of the stay, but only for incidentals, & they say yes.  I get home & there's an email, with the receipt attached, charging the entire week to my card.  Ugh.

I will get reimbursed - but for the love of God, can we figure this out!

I just don't get how a player who touches the ball more times than anyone except the QB and accounts for more yards than anyone else is low value.

Well, the argument is RB is low value in terms of length of service - not impact.  Do I spend that much on a position with such a low average length of career.  I just think RB gets the lion's share of the grief when it comes to that, but none of the positions have LONG careers.  Get the best players & generally speaking you'll be better off.

i think positional value is real and the lions invested a lot of money and high picks in lower value positions.  but i think barnwell is wrong.  he doesnt really know the lions and only has a cursory knowledge of their players.  they have more talent at edge than he gives them credit for, and gibbs is a multifacted offensive player who can play as much receiver as running back.

as for the linebacker and db issue, he does have a point on the lions spending a ton of money and capital on anzalone and campbell, but he seems to fall into the trap of assuming draft picks are made to play next year.  campbell will eventually replace anzalone and should be an upgrade on rodriguez.  his point on the deals cjgj and mosely signed seems to be grasping at straws (that they werent as values around the league seeing as how their contracts were so low).

I don't think it has to be all one way or the other.  Positional value is not all everything & it's not irrelevant either.  It matters.  It's something to consider, however if it becomes the only consideration, or even THE most important consideration when drafting players, you will find your organization in trouble.

I went to see "Damn Yankees" at the Marriott Theater in Lincolnshire, which is basically like AA ball for Broadway—it's that good. All the actors are card-holders and a few have screen credits, so the result is high-quality, tight, and generally excellent.

And of course, when they sang the standard "You Gotta Have Heart" early on in the show, I, probably uniquely among the entire audience, couldn't stop thinking about the Detroit Institute of Arts.

This is one of the greatest local commercials in history, perhaps for any TV market, and if you're of a certain age, you will probably have this running through your head for the rest of the day, to which I can say only: you're welcome.

I never knew there was an actual song - To this day that's what I think of every time I hear someone talk about "Ya gotta have heart"

A friend has all EGO equipment.  Mower, snow blower, weed trimmer, and hedge clippers.  He raves about them all.  I would go that route if I cut my own grass.  I have a bigger yard so I would need a zero turn but I see EGO even has one of those now.

My son does that with Ryobi stuff, at least the smaller tools.
