  1. The Tigers are probably a .500 team if everything goes as projected. However, they have a bunch of young players who could develop fast. If enough of them break out, they could contend.
  2. I think if a school is located in a high crime area, these kinds of measures might make sense, not so much to prevent mass shootings, but to prevent violent crime in general. It's unfortunate to have to create that kind of environment at a school, but there are limited cases where I can see where it would make sense. However, most schools are not located in high crime areas and don't typically have many problems with shootings. Requiring all schools to have metal detectors and armed guards in an effort to stop a random mass shooting is going to create a feeling that the school is like a war zone. That's not a good environment.
  3. Also, don't talk about the history of racism because it might make my son feel bad.
  4. Desperate thinking by people who fear losing their toys.
  5. That's just NRA propaganda. Mass shooters usually choose their location because they are enraged at people within the location. States with lax gun laws tend to have more gun homicides per capita than states with strict gun laws.
  6. Let's just call them killing machines. All guns are designed to do one thing - kill.
  7. I don't want the Tigers to be a team with constant turnover, but I agree the opt outs for Baez and Rodriguez could work out well.
  8. They usually shoot up schools because they are bullied at the school or used to be bullied at the school. They are also familiar with the school. They aren't going to shoot up a bank because kids bullied them at school. I don't think most of them are necessarily cowards either. They do these things because they are nuts, not because they are cowards. We call them cowards because it feels emasculating to call them cowards. It's the worst insult a male can use on a male.
  9. They will never do anything about mental health issues other than funding cuts.
  10. I suspect I'll enjoy watching him in the field more than at the plate.
  11. Joel Zumaya giving lectures on discipline...
  12. That greedy bastard needs to stop messing with the game. Yeah, I know it's the owners, but more stupid crap has happened under Manfred than any other commissioner in my lifetime.
  13. I think Correa is a better overall hitter by a lot. He gets on a lot more and Baez's edge in power is very slight. Both are strong fielders. I don't know which one is better defensively. Correa has has trouble staying on the field. I don't know if any of it is chronic in nature, but it's something to watch. Without considering contracts, I like Correa a lot better. If signing Baez gives them flexibility to add other players now and in the future, then it makes sense to sign him over Correa.
  14. If he remains a plus defender, he will be a great fit for the Tigers with their young staff. I expect we won't be thrilled by his offense, but if he's a great defender, his power will be good enough.
  15. I apologize to Jose.
  16. I think I'll like him well enough. I don't think I'll LOVE him. 😃
  17. He is going to be the head of the union when he retires.
  18. It indicates that they are willing to spend.
  19. One Cub fan you know guaranteed that we will love him. 😄
  20. I would love to see them get another good starter in free agency. I don't think they should spend a lot on relievers.
  21. I don't think spending a lot of money on a reliever would be wise. There is too much variation from year to year with relievers and other teams have built good pens without spending money. Get some good cheap arms that didn't work out elsewhere and get the coaching staff to work with them. They could use another starter and another outfielder. I am really not expecting another really big signing at this point though.
  22. Interestingly, B-ref has Schoop as Baez's closest comparison. Looking at the numbers, they are very close offensively. Baez is a shortstop which gives him more value. He also has the tools to get better if someone can get through to him. That seems unlikely at this point, but not impossible at his age.
  23. As polarizing as Brandon Inge?
  24. Baez was exactly average on the Baseball Savant defense this year. Is this a fluke or has he peaked defensively? That's not to say that there would be anything wrong with an average shortstop. An average shortstop is a good defender.
  25. I am OK with this signing, but you sound like his agent!
