  1. The only bigger shutout since 1900 was this one: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CHN197509160.shtml
  2. I got the win. That's all that matters.
  3. I once threw about 150 pitches as a reliever in a Little League game. I came into the game when the starter allowed 7 runs in the first inning without retiring a batter. I then pitched my team to a 23-16 victory. Lots of walks and errors and an umpire with a small strike zone! Those games must have been torture to watch.
  4. I was introduced to religion and some of the rituals, but was never indoctrinated. I used to try to become more faithful because I thought it was a good thing, but now I'm not sure it is good or bad thing. Religion is a personal thing that helps some people, but it never worked for me. There is too much uncertanty and things which don't make sense to me.
  5. So much speed and athleticism on that team.
  6. There is no such thing as being due! They will break out when they break out and there is no way of predicting when it will happen.
  7. The Trump haters are turning against each other. That's what he wants!😀
  8. What does that mean? The peril is there whether I underestimate him or not.
  9. I'd take them over Trump though.
  10. I agree he is a great salesman which is important in business, but I am not his target audience! Becoming president does require good sales skills, but being president requires so much more than that.
  11. I think he is good at marketing and self promotion and getting people worked up, but I don't think it's calculated (at least not by him). I don't even think that part is all him as I am sure most of the online stuff is written by somebody else. A lot of it is intentional, but if he gets challenged on things on the spot like in a debate or press conference, he often melts down and I don't think that is intentional. When put in a situation where being somewhat intelligent might be to his benefit, he fails. It's frustrating to me that all the influential people in the country keep letting hm get away with it, becase he is easily exposed. Harris, who is no rocket scientist, totally manipulated him in the debate.
  12. Toddlers know how to manipulate people too. That doesn't make them smart.
  13. Nah, he's dumb. It's just that his strongest supporters are even dumber.
  14. Every hitter on the Tigers active roster has a wRC+ of more than 100 except Jace Jung.
  15. The difference between 2006 and 2025 is that in 2006 it always felt like they were lucky and would start to fade. This team feels like a really good team that came together faster than expected.
  16. So, the GOP wants to increase taxes on the rich and Trump supports it? I wasn't expecting that. What is their angle here? https://www.marketwatch.com/story/trumps-plan-to-increase-tax-on-rich-could-hit-most-u-s-businesses-b829753d?mod=home_ln
  17. Yeah, he threw almost as many innings as today's starters.
  18. I think he made the allstar team in 85 and 86 based on reputation. You could make a case for 85, but in 86 he wasn't even that good anymore.
  19. Yes, he was a good reviever for several years, but 84 was the only year you could say he was a star. I don't think he deserved either the Cy Young or MVP though. When Verlander won both the Cy Young and MVP, he earned both of them. I generally don't think a pitcher should get the MVP (because pitchers have their own award), but if you allow pitchers to win the MVP then Verlander deserved it.
  20. Yes, he was known for that. He was also known for diving head first into first base base and making occasional bonehead running plays. He was an excellent athlete though.
  21. I talked about him in the game thread, but this makes me sad. The 80s Tigers will always be my team and he was one my favorites.
  22. yeah, I forgot about them. Hernandez was certainly a star but also kind of a "one year wonder", so not as much impact.
  23. Me too. You don't hear as much about Lemon because he was surrounded by so much talent, but he was really good. Almost Hall of Fame quality. It's going to be difficult seeing the 1980s stalwarts pass away. I believe he is the first big star of the 1984 team to die. Aurelio Lopez passed away a few years ago, but it didn't have quite the same impact.
