  1. I think Chark being there is somewhat of an encouraging sign. I wouldn't read too much into Jamaal not being there. He only had 16 targets all season, he's not exactly a pass catching threat.
  2. I think they were all living in LaLa Land post-Super Bowl win thinking it would last forever, and it wasn’t until the post-mortem this year that they had an “oh shit” moment where they realized the Rams need a few sticks of dynamite and a whole scale rebuild. Kudos to their leadership for doing it though. A lot of franchises (Cowboys come to mind) live in perpetual purgatory because they keep putting band aids over bullet wounds. If they draft well, the Rams should be back to the playoffs by 2025 or 2026. The way they’re off loading talent they might even be putting their sights on Caleb Williams.
  3. Holmes should offer the Rams Goff for Stafford and two 1sts.
  4. His injury red flag is going to make a large number of teams say no thanks.
  5. Of the Rodgers model, I think Stroud is the most similar in this draft class.
  6. I see three factors that go into this. After looking at them I’m closer on this than I thought I would be, but I’m still firmly in the no thank you camp. 1) Money: With the contracts given to lesser QBs Daniel Jones and Derek Carr, I don’t think $50MM AAV is that far off what we are looking to likely have to pay Goff in an extension. I don’t think Lamar will get a fully guaranteed contract, either for collusion or for Watson’s contract being asinine. The problems in Baltimore have gone beyond money, to being personal. Lamar needs someone to stroke his and his mother’s ego at the negotiating table, but they won’t hold out forever for the guaranteed money because I don’t think it’s coming. 2) Assets: I don’t love the concept of giving up #18 and a 2024 1st, but I think part of that will be recouped by trading Goff. I don’t know that he gets a 24 1st, but he might. If so we are probably looking at an upgrade in our 24 1st and just giving up 18. 3) The players themselves: I won’t go so far as to say Goff is better than Lamar. I think there is a possibility he will be over the next five years though. The biggest thing for me here though is not rocking the boat. Things are going good with Goff. The offense that was built around him is rocking and rolling. Why derail that? Lamar could be better, but it’s the “mystery box” that’s been mentioned here before. No one is forcing you to make a move, you have Goff on a deal that’s looking pretty team friendly right now. Don’t light that on fire for a “sizzle” move.
  7. At the end of the day it (like this whole thread really) boils down to what Holmes’ board looks like. I don’t remember the exact quote, but I know Holmes said something last year about the Jamo trade that he had Jamo as one of X number of players who they had in the highest tier of grades, and that’s why he went up and got him. For me - if it’s not already obvious by my post history - I see a mile and a half difference between Anderson and the next best non-QB in the draft class. Point blank. I look at Hutchinson’s double team rate last year and can only imagine the havoc that the one-two punch of Anderson and Hutch could wreck on the NFC North for the next decade. After all, who needs a secondary when the QB is eating turf before the receivers reach the secondary? I kid… kind of. But if Holmes feels the same way, I don’t think he will sit on his hands while his guy goes three spots too soon. In a similar vein, if you’re open to a QB, I think I see Stroud as a sure-fire quality starter in the NFL with a pretty enormous upside. If Holmes feels the same way, or falls in love with Richardson and says he wants one of Stroud/Richardson/Young, going up is the way to do it. Don’t watch him become the next Pat Mahomes on the Colts while you say “damn, I really wanted him and probably could have had him” And then of course, if neither of those are the case, and he doesn’t want a QB, or is pretty equal on all of the defensive options, or really wants a corner with the first pick, then yeah absolutely - stand pat and move back if you can.
  8. If they get it of course. Have your limit and don’t cross it… But it’s not going to be a real big seller’s market unless you’re the Bears, and the Cardinals would probably like to stay within striking distance of the top defensive players.
  9. Made it to one. Beer cost more than the ticket.
  10. I don’t think there will be a ton looking for a backup QB who looked worse than the average backup QB and is a poor locker room presence…. Will take a certain kind of ego. IMO.
  11. I think he’s got the Patriots written all over him. He’ll get released, but there is no way Belichick will be able to resist the thought that he can save Wilson’s career.
  12. I’m really starting to warm to the Lions waiting for the Bears to trade out of #1 and then calling the Cardinals and doing what it reasonably takes to move from 6 to 3. I wouldn’t give up #18 or get into a bidding war with a QB-needy team, but I would probably do [#6, #55, and our 2024 2nd] for [#3 and #104] or something similar. It opens up our options considerably and puts a lot more in our control without taking too big of a hit in stock. If you’re in the QB camp, one of Stroud/Richardson/Young will be there. If you’re in the defense camp, Anderson/Carter/Wilson will likely all be there. I maintain that there is a greater than zero chance of Anderson being there at #6, but I’m definitely in favor of not leaving it to chance and going and getting your guy if you can.
  13. I wouldn’t be surprised at all. A year ago, Rodgers would have commanded two 1sts to start. Now? He’s aging, possibly regressing, and everybody and their mother knows the Packers want him out. I’d expect them to maybe get two 2nds. Maybe the 2024 2nd turns into a 1st if the Jets win a playoff game.
  14. The Lions would have to give up 18 and a 2024 1st, not 6, FWIW. I think it has more to do with the prior ties to Detroit (Lamar being seen in Detroit, the report that Detroit was on his short list, etc.), in addition to Jamo having liked a tweet of JJ Watt yesterday that spoke up for Lamar. I think the biggest strike against it though (other than the stupidity and randomness of the above) is what he would do to the locker room. It sure feels like he quit on that Ravens team as they made a playoff push. Whether it was injury related or not, he wasn’t with his team and NFL players saw that.
  15. I haven’t even entertained this idea because it doesn’t make any sense for a number of reasons. It’s antithetical to everything Holmes has done to this point.
  16. I want to see some good ole fashioned off the field legal drama where they get renamed to the Chicago Bears of Arlington Heights.
  17. Wasn't Wood the one who came out and said he wasn't qualified for the job in his opening presser? Those comments are as much deflecting blame away from Martha Ford and himself for that disaster as it is throwing shade at Quinntricia. Throwing more garbage onto the dumpster fire that is bad things to say about Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia is easy. Taking accountability for your part in giving that dumpster fire free reign over your organization on the other hand........ Getting us the Draft in 2024 was cool. I know he's telling the media that he's lobbying for us to play the Chiefs in Germany next year to hold off on "hosting" an international game in 2025. Assuming that's a directive from Brad and Dan (it makes sense), that's also good. Stick to that.
  18. Rams roster soon: QB Matthew Stafford, WR Cooper Kupp......... *end of list
  19. I think he would cost himself a lot of money by doing this. Playing for the Lions in 2023 is his best chance of putting up Pro Bowl numbers and maximizing his next contract, whether in Detroit or elsewhere. If the Lions traded him to Carolina, where he is working with a first-time offensive coordinator and throwing to DJ Moore and...... *crickets*, would he be better off than with Ben Johnson and this offense that's been assembled around him? If he was traded to Indy, would he have a better season with Jim Bob Cooter and Michael Pittman? There's a difference between betting on yourself and making a rash decision... I do think the Lions (if actually exploring a QB) should be very transparent with Goff about such a possibility. If he said that he would demand a trade upon drafting one in the first round, I would take that into account. Not to say I wouldn't still consider it (if it was already on the table that is), but I might be more hesitant about Richardson or Hooker, for instance. I also don't think that's his personality at all. I could be wrong.
  20. Holmes himself has said this. He used GM-talk to do it, and left all avenues open, but the Lions are factually in the market for a QB and don't want to be "sliding into home plate" next season. It could be Andy Dalton, or even theoretically re-signing Nate Sudfeld, but they are in the market for a QB, with only Goff under contract. I think that Goff's future performance is the lynchpin in the overarching quarterback discussion. If you could guarantee me today that Goff's performance in the final ten games of 22-23 is what can be expected of him for the next five years, you would be very hard pressed to find anyone but the most outlandish 97.1 caller who would still clamor for the Lions to take a QB at 6 unless they are in love with someone who is there. There is a very distinct possibility that we see a return to the mean out of Jared Goff. Not to say he should be run out of town with torches and pitchforks for playing poorly with a broken thumb (@McVay), but just to say he may not routinely be a Pro Bowl caliber QB year-in and year-out. Personally, I think Goff is a good-not-great NFL quarterback, who can play for long stretches at a time where he is great (as in the end of 2022), but is also prone to having long stretches of mediocrity. Not to speak for you MB (and correct me if I am wrong), but I think you are a little more favorable about him than me. And then I think there are others still out there (though I can't think of anyone on this board) that thinks the end of 2022 was a total anomaly, and Goff is due for a Wentz-like plummet in productivity. Ultimately though, the ones to make that determination are the ones who know him best - Holmes & Co. They scouted, drafted, and developed him, and have seen him at his best and at his worst. In my mind, if they determine that it is going to be best to move on after his contract is up, I am going to believe it is with good reason (and hope the reason doesn't rear its ugly head in the season).
  21. I didn't see this yesterday. Sheesh.
  22. I think there are a few scenarios that could see Anderson fall into their lap, but it does probably start with Chicago dropping out of the top six. It's probably unlikely that four QBs go in the top five, as I would expect at least one of them to just be hype (probably Levis), and/or the Richardson talk to just be smoke. That said, it could be three QBs plus Wilson and Carter, or three plus Skonronski and Wilson. I also wouldn't rule out the Lions moving up to get their guy if the Cardinals offer #3 for sale and it won't cost #18.
