32-year-old Pierce Johnson is a good comp to 34-year-old Cisnero albeit without the saves. Colorado got a 45,40 ( or 2 40's if you go with FG) prospect for him.

if that is what Johnson brought back, then Cisnero should be moved for sure

  2. if you can get a young guy who fits the 2024 team better - like a RH CF or a good bat catcher - then moving him could make sense

Malloy has reverse splits so he is like another lefty - Greene, Carpenter, Baddoo, Malloy, P Meadows (and sometimes McKinstry)

  3. this was the Andy Oliver case, where one agent tattled on Oliver that he had represented him in negotiation as a high schooler, but then he bolted (I think to Boras) as his "advisor". NCAA tried to suspend Oliver and he sued, basically saying he had a right to consult legal counsel as a 18-year old while dealing with a multi-billion dollar organization, and any NCAA rule to the contrary was void as against public policy. He won, not sure on what grounds. But like so much of what the NCAA did and does, the agent rule is bullcrap, and I doubt they would try to defend it in court again. The NCAA just does not want these kids to be empowered. It is a cruel and dumb rule.

  4. crunching some numbers.

Tigers gave both McGonigle (CBP) and Rucker (4) exactly 123% of slot. (Diaz got 117%.)

I thought they would easily have extra money for 17th and 18th round guys, but Wilson was a huge splurge (over 750K more than slot), so maybe they just don't have enough to entice those 2.

Tigers have the biggest bonus in rounds: CBA, 12, and 15

  5. not sure they want to add another poor defender who hits LH, but Aranda of TB is 25 and killing it at AAA again with 1.000+ OPS and cannot get regular MLB at bats. acquire him, replacing Maton and the offense approves. Ibanez or Short as platoon and defensive partner.

I also think pushing in and not cashing in on Michael Lorenzen at peak value would be regretted for years

and for once a player is actually peaking and is healthy at the right time, with an all-star appearance within 21.2 scoreless innings, AND there appears to be multiple buyers

  7. the interwebs don't do nuance. Avila failed at everything! is the only HOT TAKE we are allowed.

seriously, Avila had some wins on his watch, probably more than he gets credit for, just not enough wins, not fast enough, not visible enough, and not enough to overcome his faceplant trades and free agents signings.
