i dont know how they can get mikael and kat since theyre only able to trade this year's #1.  maybe minny just wants the pick and nothing else and brooklyn really loves ivie and duren?

the bottom line is that there will be plenty of other teams that can top our offers because those teams will have their full compliment of #1 picks to trade/swap.  all we have is potentially the #1 pick in a terrible draft.

We can now trade a future first farther out.

Also, if we’re taking on KAT’s contract we’re the ones helping the TWolves. That’s a “sin contract” and you usually get assets back for that rather than giving all the assets away. I understand there would be other suitors, but not all of them can absorb the amount of cap we can.

Since we were talking about KAT.  He will most likely be traded this summer due to the Timberwolves exploding salary situation.  The Pistons would be an ideal trade partner since they could take his entire contract without sending any money back.  1st round pick for KAT basically.

Not sure how I would feel about that.

I don't love it but I don't hate it when compared to the other stars that might get traded (Lavine, Ingram, etc). Yes, he's soft as hell, but that's less of an issue now that he plays mostly PF instead of Center. He'd also be a really nice spacing fit next Cade. His defense has improved a lot, but then again I'm not sure he'll give that kind of effort on a losing team.

Not sure I'd burn all the cap for it, but maybe a large portion of it. However much the TWolves need to get just under that second apron.

You need the rest of that money to make a couple more moves. Bring in Claxton and make a hard push, including Ivey/Duren and a future first to get Mikal.

    Cade/Sasser?
    Mikal/Grimes
    Tech/Ausar
    KAT/Stew
    Claxton/Stew

  3. It's funny, I always hear about the guys in the draft who are "definitely a Heat guy" and I think, "well, why not just draft that guy?" It happened with Bam, Jovic to some extent, Jaquez, and now I'm hearing Devin Carter. 3 and D combo guard who is tough as nails, gets compared to Bruce Brown, and who's in the Heat mold? Sounds like a better fit next to Cade than Ivey already. He's 6'3" with a 6'7" wingspan, so yes, one of Ivey/Sasser/Grimes has to get moved, but let's be honest, we're all talking about doing that already.

Maybe test the waters on Jeremy Grant since Portland should want to get off that contract they signed before Lillard left. Do a pick swap, take on Jeremy's contract, send over Fournier's expiring, and maybe a young prospect like Sasser or Grimes. Portland gets a high pick to build alongside Scoot and they get free of Grant's money. Pistons add a starting caliber PF who can shoot and defend as well as a 22 year old 3 and D guard who can play next to Cade (or off the bench if you keep Ivey).

You still have Ivey/Duren as trade assets along with about 40M in free money to make trades and/or go after free agents such as Claxton/Hartenstein, Trent Jr, Oubre, etc.

Just spit-balling here because who knows what Portland wants to do with Jeremy, but Omari and Bryce discussed a trade for Grant where we gave up even less because it's essentially a "sin contract" right now.

Murray throws multiple items on the court while the game is being played and only gets a $100K fine.

Did Embiid get suspended, or even ejected, for grabbing Robinson's ankles in a far more dangerous play? Nope. NBA is reluctant to suspend stars in the playoffs unless they're heavy repeat offenders (Draymond).

Look at Minnesota. Ant is the straw that stirs the drink. But Gobert picked 27. McDaniels picked 28. Alexander-Walker picked 17. Reid was undrafted. All play a huge role in the teams success. None were even lottery picks.

KAT was also the #1 pick.

You're both right. You need to hit on your top picks and you also need to find great complimentary players late in the draft. Minnesota has done both. So has OKC and Orlando.

Pistons probably hit with Cade, but they've done little else.

    ausar didnt win?  huh.

Wouldn't be surprised if he had received some votes if Monty hadn't messed with him. Dude was averaging over 2.5 Stocks in October and November before Monty benched him and reduced his minutes drastically. At that time he was getting national recognition as 3rd place for Rookie of the Year.

  7. Can we talk about how overrated Garland is? Also, Mobley doesn’t impress me without Allen next to him

Mitchell carrying this team with 50 pts on a bum knee.

I don’t really care who gets the honor of being swept by Boston, but I just want Orlando to lose already so we can interview John Hammond.

agreed, but seeing how the league ignores draymond do you really think they'll do anything with patbev?  maybe suspend him for a game.  since he did it to a female reporter maybe they'll make it three games?

I don't know, when you start assaulting fans - twice in one incident - that's a major line you've crossed. Very different from choking out a fellow employee (although I think Draymond should've been suspended for the entire season for that). I have to imagine that the league still has PTSD from the Malice at the Palace. If I'm Silver I set an example an suspend him for the entire next season.

At some point apologies don't cut it. When it's the same person, acting the same way, over and over again apologies mean absolutely nothing and further actions are required.

  10. The PoBO (or HoBO as they're calling it now) is being brought in to fire people so Tom doesn't have to do it. That's my opinion, but it makes sense from what we know of Gores. One of Weaver or Monty will be gone. I'm assuming it's Monty because the HoBO will probably need Weaver's research for this draft since it will be so late by then.

As far as those trades, I feel like that article is the same every year. I'm not sure I trust the beat writers to answer for the organizations, certainly not if I'm judging by our beat writers who have no clue.

Some GM out there had Ivey and/or Duren high on their big board and thinks they can be a star. I just have to hope that the HoBO can find that GM and that he has something we want in return. It's part of the reason we need to test the market now, because most of their value is still riding on them as prospects - that mystique diminishes slightly with every game they play.

Either way, you can't just roll back the same team that won 14 games (plus Tobias) and expect it to be better. I think even Gores can see that and I expect he's been embarrassed enough this season that he's going to be demanding major changes. My only hope is that it doesn't swing too hard the other way and we wind up with another Blake situation (Lavine or Ingram with the 4 year 205M extension he's going to want).

How do the rest of them let that happen and not call him out on it?

Pat Bev is such a piece of garbage. Another bully, just like Draymond.

  12. Love seeing a Carlisle team pickup full court on defense again. Also, if you’re curious about the .5 second offense we never ran, watch Indy. Pass, shoot, drive, or kick without hesitation, holding the ball, and over dribbling.

From the JEIII mailbag on The Athletic.

No clue about any of these guys.  But I saw people talking about Gupta.  MIT graduate with a degree in computer science, so probably an analytic type.  Apparently, he also was the creator of the ESPN trade machine.

The JEIII method - just name everyone you can possibly think of so you have a better shot at taking a victory lap later.

How many names has rattled off so far? Seven?

Indy's defense is bad at an epic level. Sounds great to outscore everyone in the regular season, but it just doesn't work that way in the playoffs where defense wins games (even the current level of defense allowed). Even bench units can beat you down if you just let them score whenever they want.

  15. 8 hours ago, Deleterious said:

Could be.  But he has a pretty consistent history of opting out when he can.  I would say financial reasons would be a bigger motivator here.

He can sign a max deal that is 35% of next years salary cap or 105% of his salary this year.  So his pay is going up either way.

He might also get extra years that he wouldn't normally get.  Say his current deal has 2 years left.  He looks fantastic now, but at his age a lot can change in 2 years.  Maybe nobody gives him a max deal then.  But sign a deal now for 3 or 4 years and those years will be at max value.  That could be an extra hundred million for him.

Windy mentioned it could be to get a no trade clause in his contract and also to put pressure on the org to make changes (Darvin Ham and others).

KOC wrote an article saying league sources are telling him there is a real possibility Jon Horst takes the pistons job.

Supposedly, the two coach hires for Milwaukee were not his choice. So he has lost power there.

Sounds like he'll feel right at home here since the coaching decisions will also not be his choice.

Harden has really stepped up in the fourth.

They were just giving him layup after layup. It was mind boggling. Some of the worst defense I've seen in a while.

Everybody can see this. People have been talking about it all year. The question is, can Gores swallow his pride and his wallet enough to fire the guy after he spent so much time making sure everyone knew he over-ruled Troy to bring him in? He trotted Monty out there like he was taking championship victory laps.

I guess we'll see what happens with the POBO. Maybe that's why Gores is bringing that person in - to fire Troy and Monty for him because he doesn't have the guts to do it himself.

Someone else said this, but the slow trickle of stories coming out now about Monty from the beat writers is reminiscent of how it was with Bey right around when he was moved. Even our guy JEIII, who notoriously doesn't like to burn bridges, has come out and said a lot of bad things about Monty. Maybe the beat writers already know something we don't. I can only hope that's true.
