  1. they probably vetted the language of each question asked with legal. And TBF, maybe there are some procedural issues unique to the college environ - for instance how many of the witnesses were minors, did they need advocates before they could be spoken to, etc? The U might have internal policies on some of this stuff a regular PD wouldn't, that's one reason they run their own depts after all. And of course if a lot of 'witnesses' had lawyered up already you end up with negotiations on interviews that have to play out before you can write off who is uncooperative etc.
  2. does anyone know what the most closely divided US House in history was?
  3. Can open warfare between the Trumps and the Murdochs be bad for America? Maybe, but it would still be fun to watch.
  4. no, the UMDPSS doesn't quite the match the investigative prowess of the FBI.
  5. NFL coaches never cease to amaze. How can a guy can end up an NFL football coach and not understand what a 4 point lead with 20 seconds left and your offense standing in their own end zone means you should do.
  6. It's always the high piont of a Sunday to have read the Lions' game thread up through about the end of the 1st half of any given game, then go do some chore that takes until the game over, and check back to see that the Lions actually won the game....
  7. I apparently threw a tantrum in the barber shop upon seeing the results of having been given a brushcut when I was about 5. First and only time in over 60 years my hair (or what little is now left of it) was ever that short. 🧑‍🦱
  8. I know what you mean, but a 'presence' isn't necessarily a 'force' in the sense of producing concrete change. That is my whole beef with the hypersensitivity to language and identity. It has a place as far as it goes, but it doesn't do one damn thing for the 12yr old kid on the corner of Linwood an Oakman trying to make sense of his possible futures.
  9. I think "wokism", "grooming", "CRT" "Socialism", are all just interchangeable shorthands for the people who don't like cultural change to hang a tag on what they feel they are against. The specifics of each term have some currency in the debates between the politically active, but probably don't signify much of anything to the rank and file right wing voter - other than that they are all samples from the same pot of stew they want no part of. The cultural values voter *feels* his cultural (or religious) bearings being eroded, the language is not meant for the precise service of argument but a charged one of emotion.
  10. The GOP might come up with something like requiring a pledge not to run 3rd party as a requirement to admission to primary debates. Of course, not clear how the GOP could enforce that, and lying his way onto the stage would be nothing out of character for Trump.
  11. some people have noted that even if the GOP coalesces around someone new, Trump is likely to run 3rd party, which probably gives the Dems 400 EV. But even if he doesn't, for the foreseeable future elections are all going to turn on turn-out, because no-one's mind is being changed by anything in the US today, and there just isn't any doubt that a GOP without Trump on the ballot is going to be a less enthusiastic GOP, which means a lower turn-out GOP. But of course it cuts both ways, even with all the 'threat to Democracy' drumbeat on the D side, it looks like 2022 total turnout will be lower than 2018 was - ergo the loss of the House seats. Just as Trump on the ballot drives GOP turnout, Trump out of office reduces the perceived theat that drives D turnout. The good new for the Dems is the trend of more young people voting, even as limited as it is.
  12. The problem for guys like Reyes and Harold who are fairly average for utility guys is just that they need the roster spots because of the long term injured they have and utlity players are fairly fungible - you will be able to find them again later once you get your 60's back on the 60 and you've brought in the primarly pieces you have decided to pursue.
  13. I think Ezra Klein is currently about as good as it gets for perceptive political writing. His piece in the Times yesterday was one of the most spot on analyses I've seen in a while - here is his TL,DR finish: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/12/opinion/election-midterm-pattern.html He notes that the first clause is the key to why it doesn't matter how bad a candidate like Walker is in his own right. His supporters don't care about him for him, they only care about his vote for McConnell as majority leader because the other side is too unacceptable an outcome. That's big change from a time when nobody was going to get their undies in a twist over a choice for majority leader between Bob Dole and George Mitchell
  14. Pistons have to hope not. That's not a day-to-day injury. They don't heal very fast and will only get worse if he plays over them.
  15. unimpressed with UM receiving core and secondary. The team is good at what they do but vulnerable because of those weaknesses. The possibility of a rout exists with a strongly biased running team because if they do get behind a couple of scores, it can easily cascade. I think that and home field make an OSU blowout a better bet than a UM blowout. Of course what could save it for UM would be bad weather.
  16. Not only the war, also the deliberate adminstrative incompetence of the Bush II admin was anothrer turning point. Bush II sort of normalized the practice of putting completely incompetent ideologues in high government positions - esp at DOJ, that left door so open for Trump to take it to the next level. Add economic malfeasance and by the end of Bush II the GOP had made itself the party of error on all practical matters. Which of course made it a necessity to double down on being the party of cultural grievance.
  17. Isn't the 3rd party guy that was on the GA ballot a libertarian? Hard to figure that between that and the fact the GOP can't win the Chamber in the special election should give Warnock the edgs, but then again, I though Abrams had a shot in GA this time that that didn't fly.
  18. Why is the Space force guy in camo? shouldn't it be more like this:
  19. M offense with the clown show play that goes for a TD
  20. They are going to have to just stay with the short stuff that works because this WR corp doesn't get open deep unless the scheme manages to break the D's coverage. Schonmaker is out today - do they get him back or is he done? Edward's not playing much either and he may actually be their best receiver. If they want to improve the deep passing game they should probably just play him at WR.
  21. Saudi and Emirati money has been buying US pols since the 60's if anyone had ever been interested in noticing. 🤷‍♂️
  22. poor clock management my M there. Probably score 7 if they use the TOs earlier. So everybody is on JJ's case because they don't connect long, and he did overthrow one, but I've yet to see an M wide receiver get any separation on the misses today.
  23. still don't like the blue pants.
  24. FIFY
