Insofar as there unfortunately are adults out there that need to be feared and mistrusted, I can't entirely agree that it's not a good lesson. I do agree that it's sad.

🎶 In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em
And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom 🎶
Dylan wrote these lines more than sixty years ago, and even then he knew he could count on his listeners to get the joke.
I remember reading someplace that **** Enberg stayed away from baseball announcing for years even though it was his favorite sport to call, precisely because his full plate with other sports meant that he wouldn't be able to do it on more than an occasional basis and baseball is the type of sport you have to be involved in regularly if you want to do it justice.
Looks like we won’t have Bob Costas to kick around anymore. I still think he was a genuinely great announcer when he was working with Kubek back in the day.

I understand the William Ligues père et fils were interviewed about the two Yankee fans who tried to rip Mookie Betts’ arm off last night and were quoted as saying they were “amateurs”.
I’ve long maintained that in many ways it’s easier to enjoy a really great game/series for what it is if you don’t have a rooting interest. You can savor the dramatic twists and turns without being wrapped up in the outcome.
When the Tigers are involved, my preference will always be for a nice, boring blowout in favor of the good guys. Which I have to admit doesn’t make for very good sports theater.
I can still remember watching that Gibby HR in my parents’ bedroom with my dad, my brother, and my brother’s friend who was staying with us for the evening. Us three boys were going nuts, and Dad (who hadn’t forgiven him for not re-signing with Detroit) just shook his head and said “Gibson” in flat disgust.
