  1. I, for one, always value the expertise at Jones, Tate, Catturd and Associates when it comes to structual engineering needs
  2. Never let a crisis go to waste.... even those that clearly have nothing political to do with them.
  3. It's way too early to know the actual details at this point, but bigger picture, there are very few, if any, bridges that would be able to withstand a large container ship of that size taking out one of it's supports. It's not an infrastructure funding issue, it's not a political issue, it has nothing to do with Pete Buttigieg, Joe Biden or any other politician.... it's an engineering mechanics issue. Anybody trying to politicize this stuff, particularly while search and rescue efforts are ongoing, can get lost as far as I'm concerned.
  4. I know this is what you are getting at, but one thing you really notice as a civil engineer is that when stuff like this happens, it really shows how little the general public knows about infrastructure or the DOT. That's particularly the case since Buttigieg, who has a not-insignificant chunk of Democrats who hate him, became DOT Secretary... he's probably the most effective member of Biden's cabinet, and for the people actually affected by things that have occurred that have entered the DOT's realm, he's won a lot of praise for managing these situations.
  5. No joke... it's not like Reese Olson or any other guys battling for a spot on this team gets a "whoop!" for making the team
  6. Tarik Skubal wins the Cy Young
  7. It's bold, but it wouldn't surprise me.... this division isn't the best, and this team is a lot better than in years past. As far as bold predictions go, I think the league / national set (outside of maybe Pitching Ninja) hasn't quite caught onto how good the starting pitching staff is in Detroit, and by the end of the season, that will change. I wouldn't be surprised if they are Top 5-10 material
  8. Olson was probably the easiest to send down, just think he pitched too well this Spring.... he may have been the best of the three.
  9. It's surprising, although I don't know how surprising it should be.... the expectations from the podcast/beat writer set seemed to assume Manning was a lock, but while Mize and Olson had flaws of their own (Mize in particular with walks), they both seemed to give up less hard contact as well in their starts. The level of competition is just higher to make this team, and that's a sign of progress.
  10. LOL at the comment below Cody's post complaining about Manning going down because they signed two starters. Just cannot win with people on the internet
  11. Digital World is now down 8% on the day.... It'd be hilarious if the stock tanked now that Trump is attached to it.
  12. From the article: Does not change his short term issues, but still shady as hell
  13. This is true, although I think if Nixon did what he did today, he probably would have gotten away with it.
  14. Some of this is because of the competitive Senate race, but the fact that it was an either/or decision is surprising
  15. I loved those Riley Greene dives as much as anyone, but I enjoy Parker making those catches on the run much much better lol
  16. Even during this current administration, we are living through an impeachment inquiry that (for a variety of reasons) wouldn't be a twinkle in anyone's eye had Biden not chosen to run for office.
  17. Unless there is a conviction in any of the criminal cases, I don't expect they will matter much regardless of the existence of this case. To the extent this one matters, it goes to more practical implications of dealing with the fallout while trying to mount of a national campaign (which will require a significant amount of $$$)
  18. I keep going back to the fact that everyone who ends up running for POTUS amps up the scrutiny on themselves because they are drawing attention to themselves in a way that they weren't in their previous roles (either in lower level roles in government or, in Trump's case, as a private businessman). There's a reason campaigns hire opposition researchers... to find shady **** in their opponents past. Trump is not unique in this regard, and I have no idea why the volume or type of shadiness in his past, or the fact that it violates the law in this particular case, requires us to treat him by a different standard.
  19. On Earth 2.0, where Michael Bloomberg's 2020 campaign resulted in him winning the Democratic nomination and Presidency against Donald Trump, does one believe that his finances would have been scrutinized a lot more than they were prior to running? For better or worse, when someone makes the decision to run for office, particularly POTUS, their lives are scrutinized in ways that they weren't before. This was true of all of Trump's predecessors, and it is true of his successor (see the impeachment inquiry he's currently being subjected to)
  20. "but not panic" lol
  21. Sportz must be loving this performance by Vierling today lol
