  1. I don't really buy the premise that immigration, literally the most discussed political issue of the moment, is being slept on or downplayed here or anywhere.
  2. You would be correct.... that gaffe likely had a far bigger impact on the election than Fetterman's performance did. Despite the overwhelming media attention given to Fetterman's performance at the time.
  3. I corrected that
  4. An anecdote that I think applies here: the 2022 Pennsylvania Senate Election. John Fetterman had a stroke during the campaign which visibly impacted him and, subsequently, caused his opponent and supporters of his opponent (Dr. Oz) to make a significant issue of his health. Surveys that were done of the election showed that while Fetterman generally maintained a lead throughout, voters had significant concerns about his health. In the debate held between the two candidates, Fetterman was perceived to be DOA by many people (including in the mainstream media) due to a shaky debate performance that was undoubtedly influenced by the after effects of his stroke. Fast forward to election day.... I'm watching CNN and the panel received exit poll data. One of the questions asked was whether Fetterman's health or Dr. Oz being a longtime resident of NJ was a bigger issue.... voters said Oz's residency questions were a bigger issue by a 55-45 margin. The panel was stunned by the result (though they shouldn't have been). Fetterman ended up going on to win by 5 points, and it's likely his stroke didn't have much impact at all on Pennsylvanians when they entered the voting booth. This is a good example of why we need to be careful in declaring how elections are going to turn on one thing or another, especially this far out.
  5. Reasonable people can disagree on a message board.
  6. According to the poll, it's the number one issue for 20% of voters. Which, if my math is correct, means that 80% of voters prioritize other issues higher. Just think we need a little perspective here.... it's a big issue, but other issues matter to the electorate as well.
  7. Javy will never live up to the contract, but he's one Pete Alonso homer away from helping them win two games 1-0 in this young season.
  8. Part of what makes April the worst month of the baseball season (aside from the weather) is that there isn't enough of a sample size to go along with the hot takes that get fired off about players when they get off to slow starts. Yes, that goes for Torkelson too... he's not the only person in this league who's off to a slow start FFS
  9. It really is.
  10. Maybe if (when?) the Jerk Sox move to Nashville, they'll update accordingly
  11. Sarah Longwell made a point on a podcast recently that while abortion isn't always listed as a top issue for voters in surveys, at least in the focus group setting, when you peel back the layers of the onion a bit, people end up displaying a lot of passion and intensity around it. I suspect that's a little of what's at play here.... when the rubber meets the road and when people step into the ballot box, it's something that manfiests.
  12. I have to go back and look at the Derek Law game from a couple of years ago, but I'm pretty sure Law committed an error in his game too lol
  13. At least Michael Tonkin's ERA went up after this outing (he achieved Derek Law status in the last game - 5 runs, 0 earned)
  14. I knew I was missing someone.
  15. Fun fact: Miller has pitched in each of their extra inning games, and even with the runner on 2nd rule, still has a 0.00 ERA.
  16. The win in this one feels big, because the Tigers did manage to hold back Faedo and Vest, so they'll at least have a couple of unspent bullets. The Mets do not have any because they used almost all of them, save Reed Garrett (lol).
  17. Shelby earned the big bucks today
  18. Angel gifted Nimmo a free ball there too.... just as I was thinking he was figuring this **** out lol
  19. Yeah, AJ's done a really masterful job with the bullpen today.... the Mets, not so much lol
  20. Too bad they can't face Michael Tonkin every inning... damn
  21. That's a huge couple of runs
  22. Yeah, Miller gives up more fly balls, he's ideal for that situation
