  1. Yeah, I was thinking more of the middle-middle talent with my comment... even in that area, the Tigers were probably more at a disadvantage last offseason than they will be going into 24. And that's OK.... if the goal is something like being "AL Central competitive" in 2024 and "Competitive competitive" in 2025, you can work with that imo
  2. Their catching situation is probably about as good as it's been for a long time, although that's a low bar.... they can compete with what they have IMO, though they'd have to get better production out of other positions.
  3. Setting aside the fact that they are going to have money coming off the book with Miggy's retirement and ERod's likely opt-out, I do think, to the extent that results on the field impact the thinking of free agents looking at the options, they have made themselves a more marketable destination over the course of this season versus what they were going into last offseason as well. Put another way, the team looks a lot less hopeless now than it did 300 days ago. Granted the class of position players isn't great, but certainly I feel like they should have some options to backfill Eddie or even find the next Lorenzen should they identify that person.
  4. Also heard on the The Cody and Friend Pod that Tucker Barnhart, who the Cubs somehow decided was worth a 1 year deal with a player option, was DFA'd on the very same day. Small world!
  5. I've put a lot of faith in Harris up till this point, but without seeing the return, I'd be questioning that faith if he did something like that. Really, with both Greene and Tork, I think the conversations being had are probably more about extensions (Greene particularly - Tork has had a nice surge but we'd like to see a little more consistency)
  6. There's a pretty wide gulf between trading top prospects for major league talent and trading young controllable former 1-1 picks for prospects, and I suspect the Tigers fall squarely in between that.
  7. Yeah, nothing would piss me off more as a fan than waiting on Tork for some 800 plate appearances to turn the corner with the bat, only to then trade him for some prospects that theoretically may not even pan out. Work with him on the defense, or even give him some reps at DH... but right there with you on trading him.
  8. Also a good example of how quickly fortunes can change on this front.... The gnashing of teeth after Law ranked them 30th hasn't aged like most people expected it would (Law included), one would guess.
  9. Plenty of incoming fodder for the "Beat Writers Lionizing Sub Replacement Ex-Tigers" thread lol
  10. Gonna be fun when they lose by 1 run tonight because of the Ump Show lol
  11. Alongside Evan Woodbery...
  12. Didn't even pitch once in a regular season game!
  13. Lynn has been shopping Skubal from his armchair for a long time lol
  14. Can somebody teach Max to slide???
  15. LOL at the guy in the comments saying "bring him back"
  16. It's helps to understand and acknowledge that, with a few exceptions, most of the party tends to approach policy by starting from a conclusion (ie. whatever points them at odds / against their political enemies) and working backwards, when thinking in terms of policy requires the inverse of starting from a place of factfinding and working toward a conclusion. And if you're starting from a conclusion and working backward, you are never going to exhibit anything resembling ideological consistency.
  17. It would also be nice if he held it through the Tigers weekend visit to Chicago in early September lol
  18. Uhh, beginning to think this Torkelson kid isn't a BUST
  19. I doubt it would change any minds per se, but my two cents on a televised trial is that anything that puts Donald Trump front-and-center in the news (such as an ongoing trial) is gonna remind a lot of voters in constituencies particularly put off / moving away from the GOP post-2020 (ie. suburbanites) of why they dislike the guy so much. And on the whole, that's a negative for him. Just my two cents.
  20. Exhibit 209527089 as to why it's insane that people sidle up to this guy.... he considers everyone expendable.
  21. This framing in the byline for a poll showing nearly 2/3rds of Americans having an unfavorable view of Trump is just wild...
  22. Part of the issue too is that most of the opinion content out there is based in DC or New York and more than a little divorced from what things are like in the rest of the country. The way COVID (and related restrictions) was (and still is) addressed is a good example... the lived experience of most people putting out the content came from those living in jurisdictions that weren't necessarily representative of the how the rest of jurisdictions were handling the virus (ie. more restrictive than most) and that biased the content based on how it affected them personally Subsequently, at least IMO, the general response and use of restrictions tends to get framed as being more unpopular than they actually were.
  23. Ric Grenell would have been a good guess too...
  24. Regarding Point 2, the relative lack of noise in the post-2020 years doesn't mean that people aren't still really tired of Trump and wish he would just go away.
  25. Mike used to give sermons on "moral relativity" and the like back in the day too, I'm sure.... I remember hearing that stuff when I was being brought up in the 1990s. Even though it was always the case, it just something else at how obvious (and shambolic) it has become at how little people of Mike's tribe actually care about morals or anything like that.
