  1. Pretty much. The old stadium has some character, the new stadium has the ambiance of a Costco
  2. If I had to guess (based in some part on Stavenhagen's comments on his podcast this week), the Tigers were probably competitive on AAV but didn't offer the 10 years that Correa wants. I preferred Correa over others, but I get not wanting to be tied down for that long as well.
  3. Another starter and a reliever would be cap an excellent offseason. With the starter, it doesn't have to be Stroman or Rodon (although they'd be nice), but they do need to add some depth. They had too many bullpen games last season, would rather not see a repeat of that.
  4. My memory of DD is pretty hazy at this point, but I get the impression that he's a lot more top-down than AA is. One takeaway from the first couple of big signings this offseason (along with Schoop's signing as well) is that Al seems pretty good at using incentives in order to get a better deal. I would imagine that part of how they got ERod and Baez at the prices they did was because of the flexibility afforded by giving them opt-outs. It contrasts well with the blunt-force approach by the Rangers.... lol
  5. Not to take anything away from Al, but the team he has surrounded himself with has improved dramatically over the course of his tenure. Not just Hinch, but Sartori and others as well.
  6. As has been stated many times, AJ loves him some versatility
  7. Give it a rest lol
  8. I'm good with the opt-out. Similar to the Eduardo Rodriguez deal
  9. I had a feeling that the "Mets are still in it on Baez" was more bluster than reality after the news broke of the Tigers interest on Saturday
  10. For as mixed the reaction is among Tiger fans on social media, Mets fans seem less than pleased about losing Baez lol
  11. Curious about the opt-out
  12. I'd have to look at some numbers, but just on eye test, the guy gets a lot of hard contact and hits a lot of line drives. I think he'll be OK in Comerica... he's not Juan Gonzalez
  13. That's a pretty good deal, all things considered. Would love to see them put some of that savings to good use
  14. One additional year than previously reported according to Bowden.
  15. I dont think Peralta is coming back... there are better options for low level starter
  16. Maybe a slight hot take, but $500 million later, this lineup still looks preferable to the Rangers lol
  17. I tend to think they're gonna go more lower rotation, high risk/high reward type with another SP signing (maybe one of the Andersons). Which is fine... if you pencil in ERod and the kids 1-4 and are comfortable enough with Alexander, a fifth starter type could match up well with Alexander to cover the 5 slot. Stroman is definitely more of a nice to have than a need to have. But also wouldn't mind seeing them use some of the money saved to some good use.
  18. I'd be thrilled to see Stroman in a Tigers uniform.
  19. Its a bit of an overpay on years, but in this market, there wasn't a chance they wouldn't overpay on years with any of these guys. I can live with it... hope he looks more like the guy in New York than in Chicago next year. I do think they still need to get another pitcher as well.... Stavenhagen mentioned them talking to Andrew Chafin for the BP, but they also probably need a lower level starter as well.
  20. Assuming this deal is completed, people are gonna whiplash from being mad at the Tigers for not doing anything to being mad that they only signed Javy Baez. Who is still a really good ballplayer and isn't Ryan Kreidler, Paul DeJong, etc.
  21. The Yankees definitely have the ability to spend that kinda money... but they have to want to spend the money as well. That doesn't seem clear at the moment, though obviously that can change in time
  22. Either Javy is gonna wait till the other side of the CBA or he may not end up staying a Met
  23. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mlive.com/tigers/2021/11/tigers-gm-on-shortstop-pursuit-one-big-splash-does-not-win-you-the-offseason.html%3foutputType=amp From six days ago: "But Avila said he doesn’t look at Dec. 1 as a deadline or feel any added pressure to get something done before that date. “If you do things hastily, sometimes they don’t turn out the best way,” he said. “I think we’re doing it as business as usual. We’re talking to agents, we’re talking to other clubs. We’ll continue to work until they tell me differently. “I don’t think the quote-unquote looming deadline is going to establish the market. I think the market establishes itself like it does every year. And it develops as time goes along. You see some guys signing a little bit earlier, and there’s going to be some guys that are going to wait a little bit longer. Every year is different.” Missed it at the time, but it explains a lot
