Agreed. But Vierling made those plays in the bottom of the 8th, allowing the Tigers to come back. Really huge defensive plays, as was Greene's.

A very weak offense also puts a lot of pressure to be as perfect as possible on the entire pitching staff.

Very true. Too many players not able to make contact. And too many umpires with different strike zones. Playing with a dead ball may bring back more "small ball" with teams putting more emphasis on making contact and putting the ball in play. It would probably take a generation of players to adjust to it though.
