  1. He's a click bait specialist now.
  2. Yeah, good explanations. I can see how players may not see how cool Hinch actually is. He sure highlights the value of each player and there is a 26 player contribution. No one is on the roster as a fallback, perhaps to give another player a rest (except maybe Jake, now) Even when they send someone down they do so with improvement tasks and those often have turned careers around (alas, not Akil). I wonder would Tork, Baez, or McKinstry be having the same years on another squad? I attributed Hinch being ignored in the manager of the year voting to the scandal and to ignore him is a scandal in and of itself. Seriously, to trade away nearly a quarter of a team in July to be left with 1 and 5/8 starters, and defy 0.2% playoff odds (essentially a 1 in 500 year event) to advance through the playoffs, with a team of just two all-stars and a bunch of rookies. THAT should have been recognized to some degree. Moreover, the team didn't just inch into the playoffs. By season's end, it was established as the best AL wild card team.
  3. Tigers announced he was to have the surgery on April 19, 2024. Then he had a hip or some other type of surgery in June. Not sure when he was cleared to pitch again but it probably wasn't too much later than the beginning of May 2025. So his recovery was roughly a little over 12 months he is effectively pitching in the majors in a little over 13 months. I find the utterly amazing. Interesting article about the advances in TJ surgery, TJ3. https://www.nyp.org/advances/article/orthopedics/dr-christopher-ahmad-why-the-tommy-john-surgery-must-continue-to-evolve 12 month recoveries are possible with the new techniques of bracing and protecting the tendon. By the way, least we forget, Dr. Frank Jobe developed and performed Tommy John's surgery
  4. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6406636/2025/06/11/best-worst-mlb-manager-2025-player-poll/ I was really surprised how little respect Hinch and the Tigers got in polling among MLB players. They asked 100+ players which opposing managers they would and would not want to play for. Hinch got only 4 votes. The leader Bochy got 20. Ten other managers received more votes than Hinch including Cora with Boston. They also asked about organizations and no one mentioned Detroit among the best and 2 players voted it among the worse. The Guardians, Twins and Royals were mentioned favorably with the Guardians ranking 5th behind the Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, and Cubs. The Tigers revival hasn't been long, but jeesh. Not only winning at all levels they often have the best team in the league. Probably takes time to be noticed.
  5. I thought I heard that Jobe didn't need to have the ligament replaced, just braced. It's a quicker recovery time - he could be pitching next year. SGL had his surgery in mid-late April 2024 and he's back starting in less than 14 months.
  6. Well, when I watch it I won't be expecting a home run.
  7. Lucky, or maybe a suspect! Happened at the last apartment too. Hmmmmm
  8. With Parker and Wenceel back we now have 5 above average mostly interchangeable outfielders, and Carpenter. McKinstry and Baez will have to look more towards the left side of the infield for their ABs. What we have seen from left side of the infield so far will not be the same going forward. If Torres walked into Hinch's office with a third baseman's glove, Hinch should kiss him. This would give the the Tigers incredible flexibility in adjusting the batting order making three-position fielding adjustments a couple times in a game. Essentially any batter (excluding catchers) could PH for any other and burn only the player being pinch hit. For example, Keith could pinch hit for Weencel in the 8 spot and Torres could stay in the two spot for the next inning by moving to third with Baez/McKinstry moving to Wenceel's position. Torres is making a mistake being so adamant about not repositioning.
  9. Has anyone ever projected a draft pick after the 10th round who was actually drafted?
  10. I do too, but then forget to restart it. I find the break away annoying. Too often it's mid-sentence
  11. Hmmm, No. Though I am often surprised by the stat line of the position player.
  12. Oppo Taco, Orange Taco, the word is getting a lot of play of recent
  13. Were do the tigers line-up on the waiver line? A lot of teams have to say no before it gets to them now.
  14. I'd prefer to see prospects make established players expendable. Once you start winning you can't draw as much talent from the draft or the international market.
  15. I'm worried about Jobe too. Not being around after the game, the loss of speed on his FB. It seems that anything out of the usual in baseball doesn't bode well.
  16. All the HR celebrations looked ridiculously contrived to me because they are. The worst is when the team is down 13 - 1. Back in the day, before my day, they use to do a cold shoulder, essentially ignoring the fear, especially to rookies hitting their first.
  17. I still feel that he his success so far might be a fluke.
  18. Javy's BABIP is similar to his BABIPs during his Cub years. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/javier-baez-595879?stats=career-r-hitting-mlb
  19. Our squirrels are assholes. They have chewed holes in our garage for nesting shedding debris all over the garage interior, they steal every single pear from the pear tree starting when the young pear is just a knob on the tree, they've chewed through our garbage containers, not just once but a few times even though there were ample holes in it already apparently unaware or just too damn mean to care that there was a gaping hole a few feet away. they have dragged chicken bones from the garbage and distributed them randomly in the lawn so the dog could choke on them, they have left scraps of other people's garbage on our windowsill many times, and they have raided the nests of rabbits in the yard doing away with all the bunnies. I happily watched a hawk carry one off. I hate squirrels and no, hate is not too strong a word.
  20. No, Tigers go on the IL before they get hurt
  21. What was the logic for using Malloy to pinch hit for Ibanez yesterday? Did he profile better against Maddis, a righthander? Was it an increased liklihood of a walk? The difference was small and would love to know what Hinch was thinking. Thought came to me just after I posted the above. What if MLB expanded the active rosters? Would an active roster of 35 players make the game more interesting? Right now a roster spot is very valuable. You want to get as much all-round production out of each player. There are specialists who may do one or two things exceptionally well but their use is limited so they are not on the roster. Would a manager having more potential moves such as inserting a base running specialist or a defensive infield make it more interesting a game? Just pondering.
  22. I wouldn't trade Alaskan Tigers Fan for Rosenthal. I don't even know who brought that up.
  23. Wonder if the Tigers are approaching a record for overall win percentage for an organization.
  24. Going by history, if they win 100, they have a 60% chance of getting into the World Series and a 40% chance of winning. The 1915 team had a legendary outfield with Cobb, Crawford and Veach, their 3, 4 and 5 hitters. Cobb had a monster year stealing 96 bases a record that stood until the 1960s. Cobb lead the league in hits, Veach in doubles, and Crawford in triples. No surprise, Cobb lead the league in runs and Crawford and Veach tied for first in RBIs. I guess it was if Crawford didn't get Cobb in , Veach would. I popped open the box score for June 27, 1915 and was surprised to see 4 starters hitting below 209 that late in the season. They would all improve but no one other than the outfielders had a good offensive year. Only one other with OPS+s below average. I wonder if they would have batted the outfielders 1 - 2 - 3 like they would today instead of 3 - 4 - 5 if they would have won a couple more games and taken the pennant.
  25. Boston is 4.5 games out. If they slide further they might have a third baseman who essentially is in his contract year available.
