  1. Out at second. The Tigers can't even do a wild pitch right today.
  2. So who is the 27th player? Hicklen or Keider
  3. Looking at Fangraphs starting pitcher stats, and going into today they have Mize at 65th with a .3 WAR. So, at this pace he will have 16 2/3 wins when he gets to 1 WAR
  4. Last three games Tigers have averaged 5 2/3 runs per game by the end of the third inning.
  5. Is that the bat boy pitching? he looks so young?
  6. Tigers were leading the majors with a 65 run differential. Now at 74. This is starting to get a little boring.
  7. I always have an image of him trying to run down a foul ball in Comisky from RF. He didn't get to it, but I can still see him sprinting so hard covering so much ground. RIP Chet.
  8. Mize has the edge right now.
  9. 7 deep. And Sweeny might be expanding the list to eight. Always seem to have had a hole somewhere in the top 4. Tork last year, Baez until he got bumped down, Colt for awhile, Miggy for so many years.
  10. He was a more rounded player with Detroit. Him and Salley. With Chicago it was rebounds. Get the rebound and kick the ball out. When he scored, it was usually an afterthought when he realized he was undefended under the basket. That and Tenacious D for which Jack Black should thank him. After the Bulls heyday, basketball never held the same interest for me. It was just guys trying to force a ball through a hole thereafter.
  11. Lived Bulls in the 1990s. Even my daughter who was 3 remembers watching the games. When they signed Rodman after the first three-peat, it was clear they would be the best team ever. With his elite rebounding and defense, I doubt there was any player in any sport that was a more perfect fit to an already great team. When the game was over and there was time on the clock, Dennis would start going for a 3 pointer. The whole stadium would pull for him. I don't know if he ever made one but it sure added some fun drama at the end of a blowout.
  12. It's hilarious that they argued ML players might not remember to bring their gloves with them. I'm sure a few forgot where put their gloves in the dugout or someone hid it on them.
  13. I'm pulling for 5 starters with ERAs below 3. Mize and Skubal are there. Reese is 1 scoreless out away. Jackson is 10 scoreless outs out, and Flaherty has a hill to climb - 31 scoreless outs.
  14. Hope the Piston analogies stop there. We don't need a Dennis Rodman on the team.
  15. the Yankees pick at #20 Trey Sweeney. EDIT That may be wrong. Brant Hurter was in that draft. Too lazy to look up service times but he may have beat out Sweeney.
  16. Jobe and no. 2 pick Jack Leiter have pretty much the same ML service time. Leiter was the college pitcher thought to have the quicker path. Same was said about Ty Madden a college arm whom the Tigers were thrilled to get with the 32nd pick. The Tiger with the most service time from that draft is former collegiate ... (answer in next post).
  17. I put my dime on Malloy. He needs regular ABs to get going again and he won't be missed in the field.
  18. Appreciate the post on McKinstry. Good stuff. He also won an award recently for being a good guy off the field. Our defense is surprising as of late. The outfield has been a plus with the two infielders out there. Maybe better overall than with the injured starters. Baez is making his case to be somewhere on the field everyday but Sweeney not so much. Not sure what the numbers are on Tork but he appears to be greatly improved. Dingler may have taken over the starting role. Torres has been solid and Jung looks good defensively too. This team is full of surprises.
  19. And 17 points in run differential.
  20. I want to know who we drop from the 26 man roster to accommodate the acquisition assuming Maeda is already gone? Also, I think pitching is the only avenue to strengthen a playoff bound team in a meaningful way and if the Tigers pitching holds up as it has there will be no need. That said, Liranzo or Briceno would be my picks.
  21. That's a good point. It may be that the pen has been rested and it may be opportune to use an opener
  22. I was surprised when AJ was not voted Manager of the Year in 2024. In my mind, he was a shoe-in (come 'on, winning with a .2 playoff odds, pitching anarchy, building a staff with discards, brilliant platoons) but he didn't receive a vote, if I recall. Wonder if the writers (or whoever votes) were punishing him for the Houston years.
  23. Understood. But what difference in information did they have between the decision to give him 1 additional day and then 3. Did they just think it through better or is something up.
  24. Jobe was already moved back to start Saturday. Mize starting today or tomorrow doesn't affect that consideration at all. The extra two days suggests something is up with him.
