Parker is starting to win me over again, damit

You really should look at the most similar comparable. How many minor PAs did Rogers Hornsby have?
-
I saw more than a few bats dragged out in the brawl WTF were they thinking back then. I came on line because I was looking at the Tigers boxscore and noted how all the players OPS were similar. Tigers went from 1 through 8 with just a 90-point range in OPS (Dingler 751 to Greene 841). Baez was an outlier adding 55 points to the total range. I looked around at other box scores and no other team came close to the consistency of the Tigers in OPS. Most of their ranges were in two to three hundred, even more points. Sometimes the OPS would vary by hundreds within the first three hitters. I would venture that that consistency batter to batter is a big factor in the Tigers winning. Baseball is a team that relies on multiple players doing well before three outs are made and having an even leveled team gives good results more often. For example, a team that leads off with a .922 OPS followed by a 680 may have a higher combined OPS than a 767 (Keith) and 767 (Torres) but does the Tiger pair lead to more scoring? I didn't look at every team but of the ones I did, only Milwaukee approached the Tigers in this measure. I think their range was 50 points more and like the Tigers the top of the range was below 850. No MVP like superstar but solid batters throughout. Toronto also had a relatively limited range aside from Springer. So total OPS is important but how that OPS is distributed may also be very important.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread
Arlington replied to IdahoBert's topic in Detroit Tigers
Egads, that is depressing. That's like 3/4 a staff. -
"A legacy for me is to win a championship in the city I'm playing and that's the most important thing. I think when you talk about legacy, that's the legacy that you want, is bringing a championship to the city." Tony Paul quoting Tarik in today's Detroit News. He's like the opposite of Eduardo Rodriguez who gushed about his employer and how wonderful the Midwest was for his family. Tarik never once said Detroit or the Tigers in the discussion. It's clear he sees himself elsewhere just like Eduardo did. The best way to get the team into the playoffs over each of the next 5 years would be either signing Tarik or trading him this winter. I hate the window of opportunity mindset and love Harris for his position on it. Going through a playoffs with a shutdown starter is desirable but championships come many different ways and getting into the playoffs regularly is the best way to get one. The churn on this team is just beginning and the 2026 team will be more different from the 2025 team than the 2025 team was from the 2024. We will be losing Gleyber, but probably picking up a good compensation pick. Couldn't ask for a better FA outcome. Keith OPS is very similar to Torres and may be a better player in 2026 than Torres will be. Parker remains a big question mark in 2026 and Jobe will be recovering. I worry about the aging of Greene. He's still so damn young but he seems so old I love his home runs, I hate his strikeouts. I love his all out defensive drive. I hate his overall defensive play. Will he continue to improve. Break his legs and start over or get him a running coach! Someone among Hao, Jung and Anderson will step up next year. Wenceel will keep popping up in the highlight reels. I hope Carpenter will be more than a great part-time, part-time player. Tork will be Tork and Dingler will start to get the recognition he deserves. In 2027, the golden boys in Erie and Jacob's return for a full season will generate a lot of eager anticipation. I doubt Tarik will be a part of that.

Just catching up here. The announcer for WM's Patrick Lee's fabulous diving catch and assist at first called it a walk-off double play. I don't think I've ever heard walk-off used for a defensive play, at least not in a positive way.
-
I tried to catch some of the Erie game and it was the Guardians team's broadcast. They spent an entire inning - not half inning - but full inning with a promotion of a stadium food dish. Camera spent half the time on the announcers eating. Don't know how many times I heard a phrase "The Guardian's way of doing it." Between the homerism and the waffles I couldn't watch another inning.
-
Awww, that made my day, especially the 2 blown saves in 2 innings.
-
I'm sure they do it clandestinely but they need to report the effect bad calls have on games ie, how much the likelihood of an outcome changes because of a bad call.

Not surprising given your moniker.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread

Parker was drafted in 2018 and by the end of 2022 it seemed he never would hit. His OPS was in the low 600s. Then... The curse of Alfredo Simon (-.4 WAR with the Tigers). We could be overpaying for the player we overpaid with before, all to get of Alfredo Simon. Suarez had 25.9 WAR after the Tigers. -
My bet is that Carlos moves through waivers and elects to sign with the Tigers.
-
Malachi and Dumesnil were both signed for a couple thou below slot. Seems odd. How do you justify for example slot is say $650,000 but we are going to give you $648,000?
-
Yea, I dread the day when I hear LA has lured him away. I hope he's loyal beyond all reason.
-
Someone's revised rankings, forgot whom's, put Dumesnil as the 9th overall ranked Tiger prospect, the highest on their list from this year's draft. That is crazy to get your best prospect right off the bat in such a late round.
-
Yes, I think he's more likely to fall in rank in the future though not as badly as Liranzo and Rainer will rise, perhaps to a top 10 should he retain his arm strength. What luck that he was on the board at 11.

Again Law used a HOF-flavored reference to McGonnigle - "I can't believe Rogers Hornsby played a half hour from my house and I didn't know it."

What was the phrase, Singles hitters drive Chevy's while Home Run hitters drive Cadillacs. -
But if you extended this recent streak over a full season, they would probably be the worse team in all of baseball history, all of it, going back to even the Cleveland Spiders.
-
Seems like we're always waiting for him to get his stride. Then he does. We go wow, and he hurts himself. Repeat.
-
I didn't know the outcome of this game until today, the day after. It's like how I used to get game results as a kid, from the next day's newspapers box score. West coast games were often finished too late to make it into print, so I had to wait two days to learn the outcome. I saw Jake had a HR and thought which one is that for him now. Only his second? Then I remembered I did the exact same thing when he got his first. I think Chris Hernandez was taken on a dare. Someone has a side bet with Fetter on whether he can fix him. That has to be the reason Tigers took him being last in line on the waivers line.

Is this a "What's wrong with this picture" quiz?

Even's out in the short run.
