Ugh! Alonso is the exact opposite of what this team needs. He's soon to be 30, he barely hit .240, and struck out 172 times. And he'll cost a fortune. We already have enough high K, bad AB types. We need more high contact, bat on ball types. And if that means no "A" list FA, then so be it. But we don't have a single guy on the roster outside of Carp who consistently puts the bat on the ball, and that needs to change if we're going to be a real competitor.

Good. He can't get anyone out.
-
I don't care about the first round because we're beating either of those teams. I want the Yankees.
-
Very Tork-like AB from Ibanez with RISP.
-
Welp, this one is over.
-
Major props to Hinch for the early hook before the wheels come off. While this might complicate pitching decisions later in the week, I LOVE the "win now" urgency.
-
Some truly fantastic ABs from Perez in this game.
-
I was being intentionally dramatic to show my extreme displeasure with him. But I also have higher expectations than "average" out of our starting 1B. With as light-hitting as this team is, we need production from typical high-producing positions.
-
My god, Tork sucks. I'm fine if I never see him in a Tigers uniform again. Send him back down and don't recall him until / unless he looks like Ohtani.
-
Dingler stinks and ain't it. If they're counting on him for any significant number of ABs next year, they're in trouble. Agree wholeheartedly with #1 and #2. Re: #3, I think they need at least a #2 starter. I think they need a #3, as well, but I don't think they'll spend that much on SP and I don't think they'll give up on Mize (but I'm not a fan). I just don't trust a rotation of Skubal-FA #2-Olsen-Mize-Montero/Madden/Maeda. I don't see them spending money on a SS. I don't think they'll cut Javy loose, but even if they do Sweeney has flashed enough to warrant a longer look. The bigger issues are the monster holes at 1B and C. Tork - like Mize - is what he is and is not going to all of a sudden figure it out. If Liranzo and Briceno can keep progressing, this team should be a problem in 2026.
-
The two guys selected at 1.2 those years.
-
Youth doesn't guarantee improvement. Some guys just don't have it and never will. I felt that way about Dingler even before his awful MLB performance this year.
-
And while we're at it, whiffing on two 1.1 picks are absolute franchise killers. The difference between a team finishing with 70-75 wins every year and a consistent playoff team every year.
-
They've both been tested and failed miserably. You don't need 200 ABs to see that neither belong.
-
Kriedler and Dingler have no business being on an MLB roster.
-
What type of pitcher would a package of Lee, Dingler, and Montero return? I would have no issue moving any of those guys and would think they could upgrade the rotation that way rather than spending a fortune in FA.

Top 5 looks very solid. After that, I see 2 guys I have hope for. So no, the overall system is not strong. But I wasn't one who ever bought into that to begin with. -

Looking at today's box score, I'm guessing no bullpen pieces get moved. -

I agree. But plenty of fans don't. If a trade isn't made, it will be treated by many just as he said, "a complete failure." And it's those same folks who would be clamoring "failure" that would be the first to slam a sub-par return. My point is Harris is never going to get a king's ransom for a rental, so there's like a 65% chance he's slammed one way or the other by a chunk of the fandom. -

Curious if you would consider trading Flaherty for sub-par prospects to be a failure? Because if so, then a blanket statement of "not trading him would be a failure" doesn't make sense. Many reports from this year's trade deadline season have been that the limited activity is due to buyers trying to lowball and sellers asking for the moon. If Harris gets nothing but low ball offers, I'd rather hold him, get the comp pick, and give him 2 more months to continue to build a connection with the team and city. -

Yankees farm system is garbage. Not a single guy interests me outside of Dominguez.
