Coincidentally, apropos of not this, I started rewatching Bridge of Spies, in which Tom Hanks plays a lawyer defending the Soviet spy Rudolf Abel, in which the US decided they needed to look like he was getting due process as part of their ideological war with the Soviets, but everybody up and down the chain just wanted it to be a pretext to railroad the spy without any real effort to defend him—all except Tom hanks, of course. While listening to the Hanks character wax poetic about how American justice was designed to be afforded to anyone regardless of background or citizenship, I kept thinking, man, that just sounds so naive these days.

I don't see any way Trump decides to spin out Elon from his circle peramnently. Elon has way, way more money than Trump, and if there's one reason Trump respects anyone, that's the reason. If they don't reconcile, it will be because Elon doesn't want to. Despite that his adversary is the actual president of the United States, Elon holds all the cards. I predict Trump will privately make concessions to Elon to publicly bring him back into the fold, and I further predict those concessions will have a direct impact on the American people.

He talks about it only when he is being threatened by something, or when he wants to exploit its merchandising value.

If details ever did come out—which, I can't see how they ever would, since the only details remaining are who are the girls and what were the acts—then not only would Trump merely deflect rather than deny, but also, a lot of his flying monkeys probably would interpret that as permission.

If what we're debating is how influential she is in a very narrow sense within a very narrow geography at a very specific point in time, and disregarding everything else, then that tells me everything I need to know about how much my hair should be on fire when it comes to Rashida Tlaib in general.

I think it’s problematic enough we even have to debate what it is Trump really thinks of it all, because he is so inarticulate when it comes to the language of diplomacy and statesmanship. It should be clearer than crystal what the American president thinks about the heroic efforts of the Allies in World War II, and especially what side of it all he’s on.

We can say a lot of negatives about the guy and they would all be true, but we can’t deny he’s a star, and arguably the biggest star of our lifetimes.

It’s not so much a copout as it’s irrelevant. She’s an elected representative in a national governing body. Her influence within Michigan is of secondary importance at best, especially since Trump would have won the election even if Michigan went to Kamala. You might consider asking me whether I believe Rashida is the most nationally influential congressional rep from Michigan.

I seem to remember the controversy was Jung was drafted for second base but was already below average there, so it looked like he was going to eventually move to third like a dozen other guys we had in the system, and it all looked very haphazard. Plus Jung had a weirdo batting stance.
