It is really hard for the catcher to get the runner at the plate when the throw is coming from right field, and that goes double for a throw coming from right field foul territory.

I don’t. I’m not an expert on Ty Cobb, but I did read a lot of contemporary accounts on him on newspapers.com when the Leersehn book came out, on which I based on criticism of his work at the time. FWIW, he was feted and fawned over at the SABR convention in Chicago that year. A lot of SABR members seemed relieved to see Cobb exonerated. He seemed to be drinking it all in.

Again, maybe a failure of imagination on my part, but Hunter Brown sounds like a guy who lives in Romeo.

I do’t think it’s anything like someone in Baseball doesn’t care for Pete Rose. Pete committed the gravest sin possible against the game. Regardless of what who in the game personally thinks about whom, it’s simply a matter of following through on the punishment proscribed in Major League Rule 21(d).

I hope for all our sakes that’s wrong. If you guys are lucky, what will happen in Detroit will be the same thing that is happening in Chicago now that NBC Sports Chicago has closed down: a new very local RSN will rise in its ashes, and the games will also air on one of the dot-two antenna channels. That way, not only would you not have to fight a bug-filled app to watch the games, you wouldn’t have to even subscribe to an MPVD to get access to them.
