  1. I don’t. I’m not an expert on Ty Cobb, but I did read a lot of contemporary accounts on him on newspapers.com when the Leersehn book came out, on which I based on criticism of his work at the time. FWIW, he was feted and fawned over at the SABR convention in Chicago that year. A lot of SABR members seemed relieved to see Cobb exonerated. He seemed to be drinking it all in.
  2. Again, maybe a failure of imagination on my part, but Hunter Brown sounds like a guy who lives in Romeo.
  3. McStinky to Keith to TORK!
  4. We’ve been lucky on line drives going right to fielders, both today and yesterday.
  5. WHOOOOOOA PARKER MEADOWS! WHAT A SHOT!
  6. I do’t think it’s anything like someone in Baseball doesn’t care for Pete Rose. Pete committed the gravest sin possible against the game. Regardless of what who in the game personally thinks about whom, it’s simply a matter of following through on the punishment proscribed in Major League Rule 21(d).
  7. Hopefully this is not the Beau Brieske who walks everybody.
  8. Tough drop on the transfer by Keith. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite us. Hunter’s been getting smacked pretty good, so yeah, time to switch him out.
  9. Maybe he’s a private eye in the offseason. Beats digging graves!
  10. I hope for all our sakes that’s wrong. If you guys are lucky, what will happen in Detroit will be the same thing that is happening in Chicago now that NBC Sports Chicago has closed down: a new very local RSN will rise in its ashes, and the games will also air on one of the dot-two antenna channels. That way, not only would you not have to fight a bug-filled app to watch the games, you wouldn’t have to even subscribe to an MPVD to get access to them.
  11. Betting on a game in which a player has a duty to perform, putting him in the position of losing the game in the service of a bet, is a bigger disservice to the game. It is, in fact, the biggest disservice to the game, which is why it is the only infraction that earns anyone who does so a declaration of permanent ineligibility.
  12. Who needs to spend hundreds of millions in the winter to win!
  13. Give it up, NYT. Conservatives will never love you. They remember what side you were on during Civil Rights and Jim Crow and they will never forgive you for it.
  14. Dan and Bobby called it! Hanifee goes up to get the strikeout to end the threat!
  15. You can build your brand on culture changes as long as you’re good at keeping up with the changing culture.
  16. That is true desperation.
  17. Shame we couldn’t get the double play on that grounder to Sweeney. I get why we didn’t. Hope it doesn’t hurt.
  18. TORK! Are you kidding me! That might be the headiest thing I have seen him do for us!
  19. This is probably a failure of my own imagination, but I don’t think of white guys named Hunter Brown as the type to live in downtown Detroit during the offseason.
  20. I know Alvarez is hurt, but he did not jog all the way to touch first base on that groundout, and that’s bad luck. I hope. 😁
  21. I had always thought that sound came from some movie, like maybe a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western or something, but I learned while in the stadium this year that it’s part of a local ad jingle. So, doubly stupid.
  22. Nice going on both ends of that play from “McStinky” to TORK!
  23. Hunter Brown carved up Vierling pretty good first time around with four seamers in the zone.
