  1. Harris sees something in these two particular guys. I’m going to give him a fair chance to show and prove before I pummel him. I ain’t seen him **** up a deal real bad yet.
  2. We weren’t going to trade for Jansen. Hicks has a hit tool that could get him to the majors for a few years. Owens has a plus fastball that tops out at 99 who could be a useful piece if we can develop a second pitch for him. These guys are a decent get for someone we were going to lose for nothing at the end of the season anyway. If this turns out to be their best trade of the deadline, then I’ll be disappointed.
  3. Carson Kelly wasn’t going to get us anything “exciting”. He wasn’t even named as one of MLBTR’s top 50 trade candidates back on July 11. I acknowledge that you and I are going to die soon and we want to see a winner before we go, but we can’t take leave of our faculties what it comes assessing what kinds of returns we should expect to see in these trades. 😉
  4. I had a boss in the 80s who was from Massillon, Ohio and said Joe Sparma was his uncle, and I have no reason to not believe him.
  5. I think the factthat we got two FG numbered prospects for Kelly is pretty impressive. Of course, they both have significant holes in their game right now so there’s no guarantee either is going to make an impact for us. At least trading him didn’t bork us completely at catcher. I give Harris a shoot-from-the-hip grade of B for the move.
  6. I’m guessing we’ll find out in a few minutes what we get in return. Also, welcome to Detroit, Dillon Dingler!
  7. That's enough for me.
  8. I hate that we are getting to the point when we have seen the last of divisional rivals. That means we are getting late into the season and before you know it it'll be snowing and we'll be stuck watching the Pistons. 😢
  9. Which he did. Five innings, one run for Maeda. Pretty good outing. But he’s definitely done now and Shelby Miller is next man up.
  10. Well Vilade couldnt save Maeda on that second rip to left. Looks like he might be turning into a pumpkin now. Maybe he can gut his way to a couple more outs, including Santana.
  11. Holy **** what a catch by Vilade to save Maeda’s bacon. And almost doubled the guy off first!
  12. Meads with a pretty good fourth inning. Lead off double and a steal of third with one out, but a strikeout and a fly out to gut his way through it. Should be coming out for another inning.
  13. Good for the Cubs. Although don’t bet against them finding a way to **** him up.
  14. Maeda with a solid three innings and he’s probably ready for more.
  15. If by JD Vance’s calculation Trump is America’s Hitler, doesn’t that make Vance America’s Goering?
  16. I don’t know, you might be right, but they might also force up someone from Toledo to take a road action slot. Or else they take a shot on someone who’s still not signed after last year (is Vince Velasquez available?), or pick up some DFA guy off the wire. One thing we know for sure is that they will not promote Jackson Jobe.
  17. They have been to as many World Series this century as we have, and more recently to boot.
  18. Actually, I’m not worried about getting fleeced by Tampa at all this year, because they are looking for the same things we are.
  19. This is exactly the plan for Mazda: the bulk of innings in bullpen games, until he is consistent enough to work his way into the rotation. On some of his days off he’s working with coaches on tweaking some things. I suspect it will be like this for a few more weeks.
  20. But how are we going to rescue Western Civilization unless we either shame or force wenches into making babies to make up our future labor force once we definitely shut down all immigration?
  21. Didn’t Dingler play Friday?
  22. The proportion of adults in the United States younger than 50 years old who do not have children is growing — leaping from 37% in 2018 to 47% in 2023, according to a new Pew Research Center survey published Thursday. https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/26/health/childless-adults-pew-research-wellness/index.html Also: https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2024/07/25/the-experiences-of-u-s-adults-who-dont-have-children/
  23. Back in the day, as the kids of 1991 like to say, we would run onto the field and burn an American flag and then throw our lighter at any player who swooped in to pick it up, and we loved it. Kids today just have no values.
  24. As if we needed any more reasons to fear and loathe Donald Trump, his intentional hiding of the details surrounding this shooting incident is merely one more data point working against him. The election probably won’t turn on this and only this, but there is no real reason he must keep this information from the American public. The only reason I can come up with is that he was not actually hit by a bullet, which is more than plausible, but he needs us to believe he was so people will vote for him as an American hero or something, so it’s merely one more lie from a liar who to all appearances hates the truth. No, I don’t have any proof of this, but I am a voter who can come to my own conclusions about it, and I will remind everybody with whom I happen to get into a conversation about the election about how he is hiding the details of the incident.
