Amnesia about his unreliability, for starters. -
How to construct a Playoff/Champion worthy team, D Tigers V.2024+

Who’s going to be your new team next year? 😉 -
If you’re thinking Nola the hitter, he’s not a free agent. Nola the pitcher is a front-of-rotation horse and has current playoff/Series experience. He’ll be 31, and I don’t know how many years/money he can command, but even with a down year, I gotta think it’s five years and nine figures. He can probably get that from a contender, if not the Phillies. Bellinger has been raking, but he’s also been hurt and playing first. He was an MVP in 2019 and he’ll get down-ballot votes this year, but in between he was also literally one of the worst position guys after his shoulder surgery, so much so that the Dodgers non-tendered him. Despite that he now has a knee injury history, which is always a concern, Boras is probably going to get him something close to 8/200, and they’ll probably get it from a contender before they have to consider the below-.500 Tigers. The other guys, you don’t really want. Peterson is trending toward permanent DH; Conforto is merely a gimpy, average-ish corner OF without a glove, exactly the kind of guy Dombrowski might sign; Garver is also primarily a DH at age 33 who’s also gimpy; and do you really want three or even four more years of Jeimer? We are all frustrated by our bottom-of-league hitting and we all want it fixed yesterday, but realistically, there are no All-Star/MVP level hitters out there who are young, cheap, and fill a position of immediate need for us, and if there were, it’s unlikely they’d be willing to go to a perennial non-contender for years on end. Speaking of position of immediate need, the only two I think we have in that category are third and second, and we have at least one guy banging on the door to get his look at one of them. If they do sign a position player this winter, it might be a guy who’s looking for a career rebound, someone like Kiner-Falefa, and I wouldn’t see him getting more than two years, if even that.

That would definitely be a political Kristallnacht.

I hope we get something better than two playoff appearances in the next ten or so seasons.
-
It would be a **** move to forbid him to interview. I would bet they let him.

See, that’s what I think, too, that while pitchers like Eduardo might not be a dime a dozen, I think the Tigers believe they’ve developed the secret sauce for getting good to great performances out of any number of pitchers they might pick up. Is that actually true? I guess we’ll see, but it’s hard to argue with the results we’ve seen so far. If they can replicate that on the hitting side, well, then, Katie bar the door.

Who do you like out there that you would want to see us spend big money and years on?

“No pre-opt out negotiations planned” reads to me like they’re going to let him walk. If they wanted him to return, they would be negotiating.

I wonder where they rank right now along all teams with those things they want to upgrade. Wouldn’t be surprised to learn they are middle to low end of the pack.

Everybody going into a war always says it will be over and they will win within a matter of hours, or days, or weeks at the most. Nobody ever says we're going to war and it's going to be a slog for years.

I would normally say I think it's hilarious they are building appeals to convert your retirement completely to gold through particular companies right within their content, but I can't because people of modest intelligence and means will be hurt by that.

To be clear, if Trump wins there will be riots in the cities, where teh left lives, but if Trump wins, some people will be somewhat unhappy and there will be conflict, probably coming from teh left, because, you know, teh left. The Presidential Election Outcome Could Lead to Violence Washington Times If Trump is elected president, there almost certainly will be widespread riots in our cities. Similarly, in the event of Mr. Biden’s reelection, large segments of American society may refuse to accept him as president, and the subsequent four years would be marked by conflict. The United States may become ungovernable.

I'm not sure I would consider 87 wins next season a substantial front office fail, especially since their pythag record was 73 wins this year. Depends how that would all manifest itself. I do think it's fair at this point to expect that the Tigers will be over .500.

Maybe the guy who told him that was Armando Galarraga ... 😉 -

He did make it to 31 homers, though. -
Shelton was a high-round draft pick, too (33rd). I acknowledge that it's possible for a player from any round to be a star (aka The Mike Piazza Effect), but setting aside such exceptions, there's usually a good reason a guy goes late in the draft.

It was the AL East we were bit by: 7-25, worse than even the Royals. We crushed the other Central teams, but we were also respectably within earshot of .500 against the West and the NL. I think this is fine for a rebuilding year. Need to see some progress against them next year if we want to take a decent step forward. If we'd done nothing different except play .500 against the AL East, we would be in the playoffs tomorrow night!

I will make a hot take prediction right off the bat: Eduardo Rodriguez: ¡Adios! Javier Baez: ¡Bienvenido de nuevo!

What an emotional final game! After an 0-for-3 start and a BS four-pitch walk in his last trip to the plate, Miggy surprises us all with one final appearance at first base, and two pitches in gets the 3-unassisted, and walks off on top. What a beautiful ending to an inner-circle Hall of Fame career that will culminate in another Olde English D enshrined in Cooperstown. Tigers finish the season 78-84, and in full possession of second place, capped off by a nice little 18-10 run. I think they did better this season than the vast majority of people thought they might. They certainly beat my own preseason prediction of 75 wins pretty nicely. I would say that, despite the complaints and objections voiced throughout the season, Scott Harris's first season was a pretty solid success. Let's spend the next six months posting endlessly about what he must, I mean absolutely must, do this offseason to win this division next year and then every year after that for the rest of all of our lives.

Damn, he looks lost today. If he struck out three times and went out on a bomb, I'd be perfectly OK with that. -

That’s OK, Miggy should be getting at least three more shots today. -

Meanwhile, please pray for the continuing health of Eduardo Rodriguez today. -
Depends on who the Commander in Chief is.

Nah, they don’t want the 1860s. April 1954 will suffice.
