  1. Maybe he’s a 1 WAR player this year in the same way Candelario was a 0.6 WAR player last year.
  2. That’s because people have lower expectations of the Republicans than they do of the Democrats. It’s like when your bad kid talks your good kid into something like setting a fire in your garbage can and you catch them red-handed. Your bad kid is just doing what you already knew he would, so you roll your eyes and throw up your hands because you don’t know what you can do with him. But you’re mad at hell at the good kid because damn it, he knows better, so you’re going to punish him for it because you know he’s gonna get the message and straighten up and fly right.
  3. I also don’t believe the Padres are going to dump Cronenworth to save money. His is actually a favorable contract, considering what they think they can get out of him.
  4. I don’t know what kind of development can be had in that area, really. It’s largely an established residential area with a smattering of bar and self storage facilities and fitness centers and the like. It would be a little like putting a new stadium for the Tigers at 8 Mile and Schoenherr. You can fit a stadium there, but there’s otherwise not a lot of there there.
  5. That’s the legend, anyway!
  6. Is that a standard deep dish, or is it a true Detroit-style? They promote it as the latter.
  7. That’s because government should not be seen as a business on which a profit should be turned. It is supposed to be of service to the people, that is, to promote the general welfare of the people. Republicans have no interest in that idea. They want to destroy public governance and replace it with private governance—still funded mandatorily by our public dollars, of course—and if the electorate keeps putting these people in office, that’s what we’re gonna get.
  8. I would be fine with Monroe on the pre or post game, but please keep him far, far away from the radio booth.
  9. Here’s a serious question, even though this is the type of question that practically begs a joke response, but what the heck, here goes: is Little Caesars Detroit-style pizza any good at all? Obviously it could never be as good as Buddy’s or Loui’s or Cloverleaf, but then, I don’t have Buddy’s even available to me, let alone the others. If I have a hankering for a Detroit-style pizza and LCE is the only option reasonably close to me, would it be acceptably good? Or is it like their standard round pizza and to be avoided?
  10. I like that the Bears are on Thursday, the Packers are on Monday, and the Bears are on at 3:25pm, so the Lions noon game will definitely play on the local Fox affiliate, which prioritizes the Lions fourth of four teams in the NFC Norris as far as deciding which game to telecast when there is a time conflict.
  11. Note my comment about never-Trumpers, aka "'sane' Republicans", above.
  12. That's fine, BSD will make the decision as long as they have the obligation to do so, and MLB will simply inherit whoever is on the crew once they take over the broadcast.
  13. In all seriousness, I think it behooves us to remember that Shepard was fired not by Scott Harris and the Tigers, but by Bally Sports Detroit, who have different imperatives than the Tigers when it comes to their end of the business. The front office may or may not have input into the decision, but the decision rests solely with BSD. Whether the new announcer is a baseball cognoscente is probably beside the point—it's pretty likely that all BSD cares about is that the new announcer represents and sells the product in the most audience-pleasing way possible. I gotta believe the only reason Shepard was fired all all was probably the same reason Avila was fired, or maybe even why Jeimer was let go: the public outcry around him rose to such an elevated level that the castle could not ignore the pitchforks and the torches any longer. I think it's likely that the feedback they were getting was that Gibson and Maybin and Monroe are great, but Shepard was pretty awful. So it's entirely possible they will find someone in the Shepard mold, and that might well be Greg Gania from Erie as some here prefer, or maybe even Dan Hasty from West Michigan as some here don't. But I think I would be surprised to see them steal away a Dan Orsillo- or Joe Davis-level talent for the Tigers. I honestly believe the viewers don't require or even care about that level of quality. If they did care, they would have wanted to run Gibson and C-Mo out of the booth years ago.
  14. This xweet guarantees this nimrod will never lose another election for TX-22 ever again.
  15. If Tom Nichols is mystified as to why Democrats are being blamed for not helping keep McCarthy in power, he should check in with Fox Views or NewsHax or Overthrow America Network and he can learn there. It's risky, though, since he may experience Raiders-like face melting afterwards.
  16. Solid comment to lead into the xweet, man!
  17. lol "mistakenly". The "sane" Republicans never had any problems undermining democracy and placing limitations and restrictions on the vote among modest laboring classes to protect their true constituents, the robber baron/big business/corporate/entrepreneurial class. They've been engaging in this for decades, if not centuries. What they want to put a stop to is the maniacal Trumpian acting-out that draws an unwanted spotlight to these efforts.
  18. I'm sure he will comply completely, since Trump respects nothing more than law and order. 🙄
  19. I know the Tigers are going to do City Connects soon, possibly next year, and I am taking a bit of hope from the more recent City Connects that, how should I say, have less flair than the early ones. I don't want them to go way off the beam with them in the way the Rockies or Rangers or, god forbid, the Padres did. Also, since Detroit is a conservative town steeped in nostalgia when it comes to tastes, I could see the design incorporating much of the traditional look into it. Maybe even writing out "Detroit" or "Tigers" in an Olde English font? Detroit Tigers That might be pretty cool. EDIT: Don't hammer me on the D, man, that's the way Microsoft Word renders it in their "Old English Text MT" font. This is just here as an directional example.
  20. Speaking of which, did you notice the "fits" some of the teams wore yesterday? Tampa had their Devil Rays throwbacks on, and the Twins wore their City Connects. I guess that's going to be a thing during the playoffs to goose MLB Shop numbers. Just glad we don't have to see the Red Sox wear their UCLA colors.
  21. Apparently MLB has known this was coming for a long long time ... 😉
  22. I missed that part of it. Maybe Mario has a chance after all ... 😭 Thank god for MLB audio overlay.
  23. Probably not. If he had, he'd probably have better than an .897 fielding percentage at third.
  24. It was more than just the last few years that Mario dryly recited the action. That was always his jam. I don't think he would be any better coming back and working with, I don't know, Morris or Petry or Monroe. I think the organization would benefit from a clean break from that past and going with a broadcast team that is new to Tigers TV. The team on the field itself is going in a new direction and is showing signs of turning things around. Things are looking up, and moving forward, not backward. How about we get a TV broadcast team that itself is not stuck in the past?
