  1. I’d be surprised if we ate Schoop’s salary and paid Segura whatever his going rate is, given he seems like a candidate for collapse himself. His GB rate is up, his hard hit rate is down, he chases a lot, his baserunning is trailing off, and he has had below-average walk rate basically throughout his career. He does seem to be a pretty good defender, though. Basically, he’s older Latino Jonathan Schoop.
  2. Do we know it won’t? Honest question.
  3. OK, that’s funny.
  4. As I think about it, maybe more likely than bizarre. After months and months of a Republicans-will-win narrative, should they be expected to have written an article yesterday saying, welp, guess we were wrong about tomorrow the whole time?
  5. What, you don’t believe “Youngest Biden Delegate ‘20” and the “Co-host @iGenpolitics_”?
  6. If Don Mattingly gets in, then Amos Otis and Felipe Alou should also get in.
  7. I don’t think he’ll take 10/300, either. I meant to say that both the 10 and the 300 were gettable, so it could be 10/375, or it could be 8/300 with triggers for two or three more years. Something along those lines.
  8. Not only that, they are also much less accomplished than Lou. Mattingly and Murphy don't even have any rings, so you can't make that argument about them. McGriff would also normally fall short just on the merits of his career numbers, but I am guessing he will actually get a boost from being on the ballot with all the baggage guys there with him (Bonds, Clemens, Palmeiro, Belle, Schilling). No way any of those guys are getting voted in. I do think Bonds, Clemens, and Schillingwill all make it eventually, but as of today, it's just too soon. McGriff is going to look like a slugging saint in comparison, so I would not doubt that he would be the only one to go in, if any.
  9. That sucks hard.
  10. As of today, all we have to go off of is what he said last year, but I would bet there will be something more said in the next week or three about what his expectations are. It may also depend on whether other free agents like Bogaerts and Turner and Swanson set the market before him by signing first. Or maybe he sets the market for them, who knows. I don't know whether he ends up getting 10 and/or 300, but both are gettable. One thing I am pretty confident of: he'll beat 3/87.
  11. Not to worry, we have been assured that Correa will be forced to accept 3/87, and that will still be an overpay.
  12. Not even waiting until actual election day ...
  13. Guys without the experience of knowing any beautiful women?
  14. They’d be a good fit for the 1997 Tigers.
  15. I believe I alluded to this within the last week somewhere around here, but I do wonder what would have happened if we’d held onto certain players while letting others go. For instance, what if, through various circumstances, we would have kept Robbie Ray and not Daniel Norris? Would Norris be a Cy Young winner and a hundred-millionaire somewhere else while Ray scuffled along with a schlubby career here? I wonder whether players ever discuss winning lotto or dodging bullets like that with each other in private?
  16. Right. Well, that and lawmaking designed to suppress tourout.
  17. My 2009 and 2013 both that had a feature allowed me to permanently disable ESS by pushing a button, although the weird part is when the button light was off the ESS was active, and when the button light was on it was disabled.
  18. All these polls are just soup at this point. Just rip off the goddamn band-aid already.
  19. Democrats have always been the party of Phone Home.
  20. Not written for this kind of situation, but still apt:
  21. On the other hand, it’s not as though Trump talk talk is just a big nothing. It is having dramatic real-work effects.
  22. If there were a criterion that the players had to play their entire careers here, then the answer could only be Kaline, Gehringer, Whitaker, and Trammell.
  23. lol "Tröllheim". Yeah, no shit ...
