  1. Biden is appointing a chief prosecutor to go after pandemic fraud. I like that!
  2. FWIW, Verducci just went on MLB state media and said straight up, without qualification, that “pay has gone down and the revenues have gone up”. This is well accepted throughout the game on all sides, and no one who seriously follows or covers the game would argue otherwise. If you want to argue that it’s not a problem, that’s something different. But you can’t argue that it’s not happening, or even that it appears that way only because of some twisty voodoo.
  3. I was just coming back in to remind everyone that, but for the owners, spring training and the season could be happening, right now and on time, while they negotiate the new CBA.
  4. And they are. Revenue gets twisted off the books to claim losses to Players and Taxman, and magically reappear when it's time to sell the team.
  5. Well, maybe you are ...
  6. As much as we gloat at the seeming incompetence of the Russian military so far (this couldn’t really be some sort of ninja-level con, could it?), thousands of Ukrainian civilians are still dying at their hands, and it seems likely to only escalate from here.
  7. The Army That Couldn’t Shoot Straight
  8. Just another reminder that practically everything these Trump people accuse Democrats of doing, they themselves have already done. IOW, they use their accusations to tell on themselves.
  9. Seems as though some people are still more wary of the virus still than they are weary of the restrictions surrounding it.
  10. If only Ukraine had given up their country to Mother Russia and the US had unilaterally pulled NATO out of everywhere east of the old West Germany, none of this would have happened.
  11. Putin wants some things from Russia that Putin does not have?
  12. Good news, although, remember also that if true, it backs Putin into a corner even more, which makes him more dangerous to the world as he lashes out for survival.
  13. Finally! Jesus, AT&T ...
  14. Move over, Justin, there's a new heartthrob world leader in town!
  15. I remember that half decade very well! If they're gonna drop a nuke, though, it would be wasted right on downtown Chicago, since half the blast would affect only the lake. Better to drop it a few miles in, where more people out west can be vaporized. I suggest Humboldt Park. Four miles in from downtown, while only about four miles from the western city border. Complete vaporization coverage Plus I live only a couple blocks from the park, so I can go immediately and not have to become one of the invading survivors.
  16. Do you believe MLB revenue has not gone up and/or player comp has not declined?
  17. I'm going to stick with my original prediction: 162 games, starting on or around April 14; season gets compressed by scheduling a few games on off days or day-night doubleheaders to lop off a week; season ends October 9; playoffs get scheduled for a week later.
  18. Apropos of nothing, I kind of miss the tradition of having guests stick around for other guests on late night talk shows.
  19. Well, if you've never had to make your way around India, how would you know?
  20. I think it's gotta be three wild cards, right? They would have a hard time explaining away a 92-win third-place team losing a wild card spot to an 80-win second-place team, as would have happened just last season. Especially if that 92-win team is either the Yankees or Red Sox. Not only is the 12 an improvement over 14, but the bye situation should be an improvement as well. Instead of only the top record in the league with a bye and the other two division winners playing in a six-team wild card rounds, I assume they'll give byes to the top two division winners and have only the worst division winner play in a four-team wild card round. I assume they're still going to have the rose ceremony, though. After all, it is the 21st Century.
  21. Or they asked for what's fair, given how revenues have been rising and overall player comp declining. One or the other.
  22. First time we’ve had a situation in which the next word literally could not have been anything else. Wordle 255 5/6 ⬜⬜⬜🟩🟨 ⬜⬜🟨🟩⬜ 🟨⬜⬜🟩⬜ 🟨🟩🟨🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  23. Some were speculating death counts could go over 2 million in the US, applying the then reported death rate to a projection of a majority of people infected. A million seemed more (for lack of a better word) achievable, especially with Trump in office leading an administration not taking it seriously.
