  1. Well, it's hard to make young Joan Collins look bad, but that hairdo is working hard trying to make it so. I remember the Polish ladies were more likely to have that one, like Mrs S across the street. Picture that hair on the face of a gym teacher. That's how I remember her and neighbors like her. My mom and her bridge club ladies all had the hair I showed, throughout the 70s.
  2. They’ll do their dirtiest work while we’re not looking as long as we’re focused on Ukraine.
  3. I did have a nice comeback on TQQQ, though. Bought it Tuesday when it butted up against support, sold it Friday after it rose to butt up against the 50-day line. This might be one of those rare chart-based wins.
  4. Like this? I’ve seen pictures from the 1950s of young women with this hairstyle, but by the time I was alive, only middle-aged women wore this, so I think of it as Old Lady Look. Even this model: she might be in her 20s here, but to me the hair makes her look like she’s in her 40s.
  5. Pretending Trump was concerned only for the American people is so precious. Fact is, Trump wants as close to a lawless frontier as he can manage, because his style of business wins in that environment.
  6. Are you implying that Leave It To Beaver isn’t a documentary after all?
  7. It seems to me it would be super difficult to pull off an effective assassination of Putin that results in a smooth transition to a pro-Western regime which would immediately halt the invasion and then re-ingratiate Russia to the established world order, which would essentially cede whatever remains of Russia's position as a world power to reckon with. Hard to imagine how any cabal could get close enough to Putin's inner circle and still carry that sort of secret desire and will all the way to the top like that.
  8. It was never about COVID restrictions.
  9. How great would it be to get anything at all out of this guy?
  10. Max Boot said on Maher that if Trump were president, Putin would not have had to invade Ukraine because Trump was a fifth column in the White House undermining America from within. Trump would have pulled us out of NATO, and with us off the table, it would have been a lot easier for Russia to just pressure their way in a la Crimea. It’s really because of Biden that Zelenskyy is emboldened in the fight. Without the US, Ukraine would have been cooked by now.
  11. Maybe Correa needs to prove he can play a couple or maybe even three years in a row of 150-ish games with 7+ wins before he gets his megadeal. He’s got one under his belt.
  12. We are also in a hopefully short era that sees a wide distribution of wins across the league which might actually allow an 85-win team to sneak into the last wild card slot. So maybe Minnesota is looking at that.
  13. Although with Correa’s injury potential, who knows.
  14. What, 3/105 is all it would have taken? Shit, man, we could’ve offered Correa that! Good for the Twins and/or WME for being creative and coming up with it. That gets Minneasota to about 81 wins. Where do the other six or eight wins come from for them to get to October? I guess it’s gonna have to be overachievement.
  15. Fangraphs has the rotation with Pineda 3 above Skubal and Manning.
  16. So do I. I’m glad they made even this move. I was wondering whether they were done before this.
  17. I don’t know who’s left besides Cueto. Do you think we’re going after him?
  18. Pineda is a big injury risk who has outperformed his peripherals the past few years, but he’s ours now, so, go Michael.
  19. Looking more and more like ride or die with whatever legit major leaguers they got.
  20. Which probably goes a long way toward explaining why they have no interest in showing the books.
  21. I really don’t think they’re losing money on the bottom line. I think they’re doing just fine.
  22. We manage. And my morale is aces. 😁
  23. Chicago. Fifteen minutes away by sun, but an hour away by time zone.
  24. I am not arguing that teams should not be able to make money. Sure, they should. This is a quasi-capitalist system and business owners should have a fair opportunity to make money on their investments, and of course that includes the owners of professional sports team. I just reject the implication that since a major league ballclub is a small part of a billionaire's or company's or hedge fund's portfolio, they don't need to make a profit on them; therefore, they must not be profiting from their ballclubs. It's prima facie ridiculous to assume that a ballclub is a billionaire's playtoy that hemorrhages cash to please his silly sporty competitive urges. Particularly in an industry that is protected by a literal federal antitrust exemption. Major league ballclubs are not discretionary playtoys. They are seriously profitable businesses in their own right.
