As far as I can tell he has 6 years left at $11.6 million, $69.6 total. Assuming he passes a physical and his knee isn’t shot, would you trade for him if the guts of the deal were Vancouver taking Compher and Rasmussen?  If we can unload those contracts, which total almost $17 million still, that brings the net cost of EP40 to $53 million, which is $8.83 million a year. 

assuming his knee checks out, you end up with a player who, even playing on a bad team in a bad situation, has been much more productive than Copp. Maybe in a less bad situation, playing with a bunch of Swedes, and not having the unforgiving eye of the Canadian hockey media on him he might bounce back to a 65 point player. Not great but would have been enough for third or fourth on this year’s team. Put Larkin with DeBrincat on the first line, then Pettersson and Raymond on the second line, maybe with Genborg eventually for some physical presence. 

It could be a disaster so you’d have to make sure Hakan and Lidstrom and all the other Swedes are bought in. But this rebuild is stuck in limbo unless Stevie can pull a rabbit out of his hat. 

as much as I bag on ep40 for being soft and the most overpaid player in the league, im almost positive vancouver will get more than just two god awful overpaid players like compher and rasmussen in return.

Jim Rutherford just admitted the Canucks tanked hard. “It is always difficult when you have a bad season but this one was on purpose. It is about time the Canucks have luck in getting a high pick”.  I mean, we all knew, but aren’t you at least supposed to pretend?

Yes, that’s why I said they would be the guts of the trade. I don’t know who else would have to be included. Danielson? The bigger point is that Stevie was rumored to have been exploring EP40 at the trade deadline. Could a trade like this be a springboard out of purgatory? Or would it be an anchor?

Tough look for both Soderblom and Mantha. Both were -1 on the night and played under 14 minutes each. No points for either, Soderblom failed to record a hit.

This is awesome. Kocur hadn’t gotten re-signed and was playing in a beer league in Detroit. Chicago came to town and he talked to Probert after. Said next time you come to Detroit, rough them up a bit so they think about needing an enforcer. Probert did. Bowman called Kocur the next day and told him to go to minor league camp and get in shape. He did and they signed him. Next time Chicago was in town he and Probert fought. They were down on the ice and Kocur told him hey thanks a lot.

Wow, Carolina had an apparent winning goal in OT waved off for offside. But awarded a penalty shot on same play. Which Ullmark stopped from Martinhook

This was a good night of hockey. Carolina wins in 2OT. Dallas hangs on over Minnesota. Edmonton scores with 2 minutes to go to beat. Anaheim. Penguins lose.

Another funny Mantha defensive play last night.  For some reason he decided his team had the puck and he should leave the zone?

Looks to me like Mantha is playing himself out of any sort of big payday his regular season might have got him. I caught him looking bad on defense for another Flyers goal tonight, dude just has no feel for the defensive zone.  Left the offensive zone before his team had the puck again, which led to him eventually losing his point assignment who scored.  With zero points so far he's been a huge negative for the Pens. 

Soderblom is a healthy scratch too.

Can the Oilers win with Connor Ingram in net? 4 goals on 22 shots tonight after 2 periods. Granted, one came on a terrible turnover by McDavid on a powerplay, but still.

Sure, Dallas is up 2-1 in the series after a 2OT win over Minnesota, but they still look really dumb with UberEats stamped all over their helmets.

Yvan Cournoyer brought the fire. Habs-Lightning went to overtime for 3rd straight game, neither has had a 2-goal lead this series. Lane Hutson scored a boomer from the points, Habs lead 2 games to 1.

WC2 Ottawa swept out by Carolina. The Sens never had a lead at anytime in the series. Neither Stutzle nor B Tzachuk scored a goal.
