Their tax rate is a flat 4% on anything over $10K.  I think they are underestimating how much it would take to convince someone to live in Mississippi.  Also, all the working stiffs will still be paying state tax.

I saw recently that his buyout remains the same. His new contract is a result of him making the playoff semifinal, which was part of the contract he signed earlier.

Anyway, the buyout remains laughably low, but at least the increased commitment and guarantee makes it harder for other schools to offer a raise. But if they wanted to, it would cost them hardly anything.

I’ll be honest, I had to pause for a second to remember whether they actually ended up winning it all.

I'll be on the Bloomington campus of IU today for my daughter's campus tour.  I'll report back on hubris and whatnot.  I want to like today because they have a good program for her major.

We were there in January for a tour.  its a very pretty campus.  We didnt do the dorm tour because we were on our way to Kentucky, so report back on that.  😉

We did Kentucky yesterday.  That dorm tour was best seen to date.  Also a lovely campus.  My one critique.  The coke zero was out in the cafeteria.

I'll pass along any strong thoughts on dorms.  KU compared to Louisville is like comparing something from HGTV after a remodel to my barracks in 1987 in a 100 year old building in Baumholder, Germany.

We just got back from georgia and alabama.  Alabama's dorms are amazing.  everything about that camous is brand new.  its massive.  we did a sorority house tour too.  it was...interesting.  Georgia wasnt as nice as i thought it would be and they didnt show us the dorms which likely means they suck.

but she really liked georgia.  its georgia and kentucky for her right now.  maybe indiana too.

My Dad is a bama alum.  I'll pass along the strong review.  He went there in the 1940s after WWII with all the returning vets so he probably was dealing with bare minimums for housing.

KU is 500 miles from home in northern VA so we are hoping that is as far as she wants to go.  We are also looking at Colorado State and Oregon for her program but probably only can tour one of those two.

Sororities are prob not my daughter's interest.  The importance of them in southern university culture also a neg for any of these SEC campuses for her.   But, you never know.

Bama has a very different vibe to it.  VERY southern.  much moreso than kentucky or even georgia.

at bama, our tour guides were all dressed in formal red dresses, pearls, and heels.  lots of blonde hair!  the sorority house tour was with another girl dressed in a formal dress and heels.  lots of yes sir and no sir.  my kid isnt white, so the environment would be a concern.

i thought the historical plaques for the brave alabama boys of 1860 defending the university were interesting.

athens is a lot more her speed than bama.  but bama is easier to get into than georgia and offers quite a bit of cash.  so does kentucky.  georgia not so much.  its hard to get into georgia OOS nowadays.

My liberal Michigan grad mother would have a heart attack if my daughter went to Bama.

KU seems closest to a B1G school of the ones I've seen so far.   I saw a prof in the cafeteria who had that older Ann Arbor prof look (i.e., wildly curly gray hair, austerely thin, button up shirt and dress pants from the 1980s).  I was like...if we were looking at zillow of his house we'd see mid century modern, african art, musical instruments, kitchen needs an upgrade.

A neighbor girl went to Tennessee and this very dark skinned Indian girl came back as a blond.  She was already one in her mind and disposition so, it merely affirmed her identity.

Also, buildings seem very sturdy. Could protect you against siege or zombie attacks.

Have seen no evidence of IU’s football championship anywhere.
